the amazing things you'll be doing
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most dramatic and beautiful coastlines in Europe. Mountains rise steeply out of the Mediterranean far below, while picturesque towns nestle neatly in isolated coves. Following mule tracks and old paths through hillside villages, lemon groves and beautiful deep gorges we descend from our rural base on the Agerola plain to the towns with their narrow streets, whitewashed buildings and fascinating churches, monasteries and cathedrals. Away from the trails there is plenty of time to partake in the traditional Amalfi pastimes of sampling incredible food and wine as well as enjoying the Mediterranean climate. Saving the best till last we complete our week with one of the world’s great walks, the ‘Walk of the Gods’.

Travel by public and private bus, boat and on foot. Moderate fitness required for large number of steps. Group size is 6-16 people plus leader. Price includes 7 nights in the Hotel Due Torri. A small, friendly, family owned and run hotel located 600m from the village square. All rooms have en suite facilities. All breakfasts, 4 packed lunches and 6 dinners are included.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Fly to Naples; transfer to our base in the sleepy village of Bomerano.
Day 2:Monte San Angelo walk. A gentle introductory walk to the mountain top at Monte San Angelo for great views over the Agerola Plain, the Bay of Naples and along the Sorrentino Peninsula to Capri.
Day 3:Bomerano to Amalfi. Leave the Agerola Plain and follow mule tracks, old paths and steps to descend to Amalfi. Free time to explore the town and famous Cathedral before returning to our hotel.
Day 4:Pompeii & Mount Vesuvius. Drive to the Bay of Naples, visit the fascinating ruins of Pompeii and take a walk up Mount Vesuvius.
Day 5:Valle del Ferriero National Park walk. Guided walk through meadows and chestnut groves to Valle del Ferriero N.P. and the chance to try some delicious locally-made smoked Mozzarella cheese on the way.
Day 6:Free day. Today is free to relax, or chose from a variety of optional activities including a boat ride to the spectacular island of Capri, visits to Naples, Ravello and Herculaneum or a choice of unguided walks.

small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.
how this holiday makes a difference
Walking through villages on Italy holidayAs a part of our continued commitment to responsible tourism, we operate this trip in a way that aims to reduce impacts and to give as much back as possible to the local communities. For example, we use public transport where possible and the local bakery for packed lunches. We stay in a relatively unknown area of Amalfi so clients are providing income to an area that would usually not benefit from tourism. On the day walk to Valle del Ferriero N.P., the clients visit a local mozzarella factory where the money goes directly to supporting this local enterprise.

We also use local guides in Pompeii and Vesuvius. Our leaders, already committed to Responsible Tourism, have received training and get additional refresher training on a regular basis. They inform clients throughout the week of issues that affect local communities and ways in which we can help reduce the impact and maximise the benefits to the local communities from the visit.

Due to the number of careless tourists on some of the trails we use, there can be some litter, which our leaders have been known to clear up or inform the local council so they can take the matter further.

We use the family-owned and run Due Torri Hotel on this trip, which contributes directly to the local community because local staff are employed. All the hotel food is home made and by using locally produced and sourced goods. The air conditioning is usually on request from reception, so they can minimise the risk of clients leaving it on in their rooms when they leave for the day. The hotel recently installed solar panels which provide hot water for all rooms all year round. By employing local staff and using local produce, they maintain their commitment to responsible tourism.

Each group has a maximum of 16 in order to make less of an impact on the local community. This also allows us to use public transport without interfering too much with the locals.

We have at our UK offices worked to reduce our carbon footprint through a reduction of energy use and energy conservation measures. We also actively reduce the waste produced by having active reduction and recycling policies in place. We run annual staff workshops on Responsible Tourism.

Global warming is a reality and to help you make a difference by reducing the carbon dioxide that is produced when you travel we offer a chance to carbon balance your flights. We encourage all our clients to do this and do so for all our staff travel. Go on do your bit!

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
