the amazing things you'll be doing
Our 5 Star PADI resort operates on the east coast of Sardinia at Cala Gonone, an enchanting, unspoilt coastal village which provides a perfect base from which to explore the scenic treasures around. Cala Gonone looks out onto the Gulf of Orosei, a Marine oasis inside the Gennargentu National Park known world-wide for its limestone cliffs which stretch for 40 kilometres, furrowed by deep gorges and dried-out riverbeds. Cala Gonone is famous for the endless array of caves, tunnels and mysterious enclosures found near the surface of the sea. Many of these cavities have an above-ground portion that continues underwater.
We offer daytime and night-time snorkelling excursions (with wet-suit, fins, masks and snorkel), the Discover Scuba Diving program for beginners, PADI diving courses (Level one up to Dive Master), specialty courses (e.g. Cavern Diver, Underwater Naturalist, Fish Identification, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Night Diver, Wreck Diver and diving for licensed divers. We guarantee a guide for every 4-5 divers.
There are 30 dive spots to choose from including cliff faces, shallows (sand banks), antique fossil beaches now underwater, caves and two wrecks from the Second World War - the famous German armed cargo ship KT 12, and the Italian merchant ship Nasello.
We sail in the "Mizar", a 13m yacht fitted with two Perkins engines, 3 cabins, a diving operations area at the stern, a snack bar and ample prow for relaxation and post-immersion. In addition, we have a 6.70m rubber boat with a 135 Hp engine enabling 20 divers per excursion.
Our Centre has a classroom with computers, diving videos and slide projector, a small library focusing on marine biology and an area for rinsing equipment and baskets for storage, showers, and bathrooms.
Accommodation in Cala Gonone is also available in holiday homes, farm stays (agritourism), a 4-star camp site, a club resort or in 2, 3 and 4-star hotels. Please contact us for recommendations.
Diving prices include: 6 dives (with tanks and weights) in the Gulf of Orosei, self-catering accommodation (1-2 bedroom apartment with bathroom, kitchen and terrace) and 1shiatsu massage. Wreck and cavern dives: €10 extra per dive. Dive equipment: €15 per person per day. Sheets & towels: €10 per person per week.
Non diver prices include: Self catering accommodation, 3 snorkelling excursions with equipment (fins and mask) and 1 shiatsu massage. Sheets & towels: €10 per person per week.

travellers' tales
Most memorable was diving on the wrecks in the bay, pleasant evenings spent with a glass of wine overlooking the water and our great hosts Cinzia and Maurizio. (more)
how this holiday makes a difference
Our Diving Centre opened its doors in 1995 out of a love for the outdoors & a desire to do something positive and different for our native land. Since then we have shared this passion with our guests encouraging them to behave responsibly and help preserve the environment. Our economic policy is based on rules of common sense. We direct travellers to apartments, "agriturismi" and hotels owned by local people and always advise our guests to use local shops, farm shops & restaurants. In cooperation with PADI, we organize an annual "Beach clean-up". We are also working with DAN (Diver's Alert Network), a non-profit medical and research organization associated with Duke University Medical Center on their campaign about the security of the divers in the water. Our environmental policy covers our action both on land and in the water. We recycle waste (organic, paper, plastic, glass and iron, aluminium, battery, medicine), are conscious of our water & energy usage (we have solar panels in our apartments), re-use paper, reduce plastic usage (e.g. water bottles) and share cars. In the water, we put all our efforts in to minimizing the negative impact of scuba diving using low emission engines, anchoring in the sand, using the equipment as long as possible (despite the temptation to buy the latest gear!), and by encouraging our guests to take courses in buoyancy. All our boats are non smoking (avoiding cigarette butts in the water, promoting good health) and we ask the staff not to smoke with our guests. Furthermore we ask our staff and clients to sign a Conduct Code which covers responsible diving ("look but don't touch", buoyancy control & equipment techniques to avoid damage to the sea bed & corals, "practice skills over sand and not the sensitive reef", "don't throw litter or exhale bubbles under rocks"). We also include not buying souvenirs/gifts from corals, shells or hard woods, recycling, water conservation, car sharing, reducing plastic & energy use and reusing paper. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
