introduction to Tanzania lodge safari
Tanzania boasts some of the most impressive national parks in Africa, containing some of the best range of wildlife on the entire continent. On this short lodge-based safari we visit Lake Manyara National Park, one of many such soda lakes in east Africa's Great Rift Valley, for our first game drive from our base at an incredible lodge overlooking the lake. From Lake Manyara we travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and into the bordering Serengeti National Park. This is the quintessential Africa; where wide open plains stretch as far as the eye can see, supporting vast numbers of plains animals, including over two million wildebeest. Driving around the Serengeti Plains ranks as one of the major highlights in all of Africa. Leaving the Serengeti we pause at Olduvai Gorge, an archeological site made famous by Dr Leakey in the 1950's, before reaching the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater. Just 20 kilometres wide the crater floor teems with vast quantities of animals, including elephant, lion, cheetah and black rhino. The park is truly a mini 'Garden of Eden' which we will explore from our lodge, which is spectacularly perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. From Ngorongoro we travel to our final national park, Tarangire National Park, which has a wildlife concentration second only to the Ngorongoro Crater. This safari is conducted in a 4WD vehicle with a specialist local guide to give you the best possible insight into these famous parks of northern Tanzania.

how this holiday makes a difference
See Tanzania through the eyes of a local, as your Tanzanian tour leader gives you a first-hand insight into the rich and colourful array of wildlife that are found in this veritable Garden of Eden, as well as introduce you to the rich natural tapestry of the country. The Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park are two places that are synonymous the world over as very special wildlife havens. A journey there is an amazing experience that ensures travellers become acutely aware of the importance of conservation and also become ambassadors for the continual protection of wildlife and wilderness the world over, so that future generations can continue to appreciate them. In their continuous support of tourism in Tanzania this operator is training tour leaders on a variety of issues, from environmental awareness to First Aid. This not only assists in the conduct of a tour but also provides leaders with important life skills. By only employing tour leaders born and bred in the regions they visit, they are supporting local economies. Through offering employment and steady revenue, tourism can ultimately make a real positive difference to local communities. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
