the amazing things you'll be doing
Beginners' Weekends (Introductory mountain biking)
£210 (2 days). 2009: 01 May, 21 Aug
Our Beginners weekends have been specifically designed for those just starting out in mountain biking. With direct trains journeys from London only just over 3 hours long, Penrith is the perfect setting for this very popular weekend. Our routes around Ulswater, Blencathra, and Greystoke Castle are on a combination of bridleways and forest tracks and led by our experienced guides provide an excellent introduction to mountain biking. The Lake District views are stunning, as you ride along the open fells in peace and tranquillity.

Euphoric Ulswater (Moderate mountain biking)
£210 (2 days). 2009: 15 May, 18 Sep
Riding from our accommodation in Penrith, we take in the beauty of the Northern Lakes, passing castles and travelling through open fells. With Stunning views of Blencathra and neighbouring mountains, we sample a wide variety of off-road riding, at a manageable level. You’ll ride rocky river beds, steep descents, rewarding ascents, and single track traverses, all within the capabilities of those quite new to off-road riding or for those just wanting a great weekend!

Skiddaw (Adventurous mountain biking)
£210 (2 days). 2009: 10 Jul, 28 Aug
Cycling straight out of the door in Keswick, we contour around the longest, steepest single stretch bridleway in the UK. Our journey will have us winding along ancient mining tracks, leading to the classic challenge of whitewater dash. There are stunning views of the Northern Lakes throughout and a route to savour in the Borrowdale Valley, brimming with technical challenges, yet not too daunting for those with limited off-road experience.

Personal Tuition (All levels)
£80 (per day), based on min group size 2 people. Start dates can be arranged to suit your requirements
Looking to broaden your range of mountain biking skills? One of our fully qualified MIAS (Mountain biking Instructors Award Scheme) guides are at hand to offer coaching, training, and advice on route finding, navigation, maintenance, bike set-up and technique all tailored to your needs. Minimum group size 2 people.
this tourism business was Highly Commended
In our 2005 First Choice Responsible Tourism Awards, the largest awards of their kind in the world, and organised by responsibletravel.com in association with The Times, World Travel Market and Geographical Magazine. The idea behind the Awards is that all types of tourism – from niche to mainstream – can and should be operated in a way that respects and benefits destinations and local people.

small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.
how this holiday makes a difference
Lake District scenery, Lake District mountain biking weekendsWe start with a local perspective - that's our philosophy.

Whether abroad, or just as importantly at home, the start point is the same; how to get the most enjoyable holiday for our customers while benefiting the local people, economy and respecting their environment and their culture.

Spending the weekend biking in the lakes in a great way to take a short break on your bike without the need to fly abroad and is a brilliant way to explore the lesser known tracks and trails.

Steve, our guide in the lakes, has over 20 years experience and has a great relationship and understanding with landowners to ensure we responsibly access this national park and choose low impact trails. We support the training of all our guides to MIAS level 2.

During our weekends in the lakes we use independent, locally run B&Bs and Guesthouses, eat in local restaurants and pubs such the Costas Tapas Bar, The Royal in Penrith and The George in Keswick. We supply our bikers with picnics and snacks sourced from local shops such as Cranstons based in Penrith. This helps to put money and business back into the local economy.

We encourage train travel to our weekends in the lakes and offer a free pick-up service from Penrith station. Being only 3 hours by train from London, this is a quicker and more environmentally friendly form of travel to enjoy our weekends by. We deliberately keep our group sizes to a maximum of 12-15 people to minimise the environmental impact.

For all our trips we off-set emissions for staff and guide flights, office energy and vehicle usage and recycle our office waste. We offer all our customers with the opportunity to off-set their emission for flights.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
