the amazing things you'll be doing
Beginners' Weekends (Introductory mountain biking)
£210 (2 days). 2009: 12 Jun, 24 Jul
Our Beginners weekends have been specifically designed for those just starting out in mountain biking. Youlgreave, near Bakewell, is our base in the heart of the Peak District National Park.
Our routes have been tailor made to provide a variety of riding, including former railway lines, which are now the gently undulating cycle routes of the Tissington and the High Peak trails. We weave our way around the bridleways and back lanes of Milldale passing the stately home of Chatsworth House and in the evening relax in a cracking local inn renowned for its food.
Derbyshire Dark Peak (Challenging mountain biking)
£210 (2 days) 2009: 29 May, 23 Oct
Located at the start of the Pennines, with Kinder Scout and Mam Tor looking on, this part of the Dark Peak is prime mountain biking country.
Based near to the Edale and Hope Valleys we explore the most spectacular and challenging terrain the Dark Peak has to offer. Riding is varied with singletrack, open heather moors, tough climbs and rewarding descents. The famed technical Jacob’s Ladder awaits, as do the Lord’s Seat and the magnificent trails around the Derwent and Ladybower reservoirs.
Derbyshire White Peak (Moderate mountain biking)
£210 (2 days) 2009: 10 Apr, 07 Aug, 25 Sep.
Superbly positioned in the village of Middleton-by-Youlgreave with commanding views of the ‘White Peak’, great B&B's provide the perfect base for our ever popular Derbyshire Peak District weekend. Our routes centre around Milldale, Beeley Moor and the stately home of Chatsworth, and provide a good introductory level for most, whilst offering the chance of more advanced sections for the experienced rider.

This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places. how this holiday makes a difference
We start with a local perspective - that's our philosophy. Whether abroad, or just as importantly at home, the start point is the same; how to get the most enjoyable holiday for our customers while benefiting the local people, economy and respecting their environment and their culture. Spending a weekend biking in the peaks is a great way to take a short break on your bike without the need to fly abroad and is a great way to explore lesser known trails and experience the beauty of this National Park. Nick, our local guide in the peaks and his team of MIAS qualified guides have been guiding for us for in this area for over 10 years and have a great understanding of the local environment and are able to choose designated tracks and bridleways as well as utilising parts of the SUSTRANS cycle network to minimise damage to the environment. Our group sizes are kept deliberately small with max of 12-15 people. During our White Peak and beginner weekends we use independent, locally run B&Bs and guesthouses and eat our meals in local restaurants and pubs. During our Dark Peak weekend we stay in a Bunkbarn and cook all our own food using local produce wherever possible. Our lunches and snacks are sourced from local shops such as the famous Bakewell pudding shop. This helps to put money and business back into the local economy. We encourage train travel to our peaks weekends and offer a free pick-up from Matlock, Buxton and Edale to encourage travel from different parts of the country via train. For all our trips we off-set emissions for staff and guide flights, office energy and vehicle usage and recycle our office waste. We offer all our customers with the opportunity to off-set their emission for flights. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
