the amazing things you'll be doing
This Egypt trip has been especially designed for travellers over 50. Your discovery of this ancient land begins in Cairo, where your'll visit the famous Egyptian Museum, home of Tutankhamun's gold. Crossing the Nile, you'll see the famous Pyramids at Giza before taking the overnight train south to Aswan, gateway to Nubia. In Aswan you'll step aboard your riverboat for the classic river journey to Luxor. Equipped with sundeck, loungers and even a small pool, you spend the next couple of days cruising along the historic Nile.
As well as visiting the contrasting temples of Kom Ombo and Edfu, you can enjoy the ever-changing scenery along the riverbank, passing biblical scenes of farmers in flowing robes ploughing fields with oxen. Once in Luxor your journey into history continues with a visit to the legendary Valley of the Kings and a carriage ride to the stunning Karnak Temple. This is a comfortable trip for those with a real sense of adventure.
Cairo & The Pyramids
First you’ll visit the spectacular sites of the Pyramids and the mythical Sphinx. The Egyptian Museum contains the impressive relics of a once majestic civilisation and makes for a fascinating visit. From Cairo you take an overnight train to Aswan, where you have free time to enjoy the stunning surroundings. You’ll board your comfortable riverboat for the next stage of your journey.
Luxor & The Valley of the Kings
As you cruise along the Nile, you’ll marvel at the wonders of the ancient Egyptian culture, visiting the temples of Kom Ombo and Edfu. Your river journey ends at Luxor, where you head into the desert to the dramatic Valley of the Kings and Karnak. Finally you’ll have further time to explore the wonders of Cairo.
Walk around Old Cairo
During your free time in Cairo, why not take a walk around the heart of the old city? This area, which includes the Coptic district is a traditional and fascinating way to spend your time in Egypt’s capital (optional). On this trip you will spend 3 nights in hotels, 1 night in a berth on a sleeper train and 3 nights in a shared berth on a riverboat. We use comfortable three star hotels and rooms have en suite facilities. Most hotels also feature a restaurant and bar. They are well located so access to the sights of the cities is within easy reach. On the train your berth will be in a twin bunk with wash facilities; a bar is also available. Trip price includes 7 breakfasts, 3 lunches & 4 dinners. You’ll get to taste lots of local cuisine while in Egypt’s cities – from the falafel sold in many restaurants, to the lovely pancakes available in one of our favourite cafés in Cairo’s Khan-al-Khalili. On board the riverboat, all meals are served in the restaurant (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and specifically cater for the ‘western appetite’.
This trip has many different forms of transport – from comfortable air-conditioned charter bus to calesh (horsedrawn carriage). The main section of your trip is on a riverboat for your cruise along the Nile. It will feature a small swimming pool, restaurant and bar. There will be ample space to relax and watch the sights of the Nile go by! Twin cabins are compact and have an en suite bathroom, with wash basin, toilet and hot shower.

over 50s holidays
This trip has been specially designed for, and is exclusive to, travellers over 50. On these trips, the typical group size is just 12, and we never exceed 16. This means better service for you, the chance to use smaller hotels, more freedom to reach out of the way places and more of a sense of camaraderie and fun. Over half of our travellers book independently and we do not charge an additional single supplement. Most travellers are aged between 50 and 70 and there is no upper age limit. It’s attitude and a love of travel that counts!how this holiday makes a difference

We have joined forces with the Sunshine International Project, Luxor, to assist in providing education and a home for children in Egypt. You will have the opportunity to visit the home during your stay in Luxor, and meet the 68 residents - aged between two months and 11 years old. You’ll be assured of a cheery welcome! If you would like to give a gift they would be delighted to receive the following; pyjamas, disposable nappies, milk formula & baby shampoo. All of these goods are available to buy cheaply locally (helping the local economy) and your group leader will be able to advise on where to buy things.
Clients who travel with us will automatically receive a copy of our Responsible Travel leaflet. This contains details and advice on how you can make a positive difference when you travel. We work in partnership with Plan International. Plan works with some of the world’s poorest communities where three out of four children die before the age of five. We also support Friends of Conservation – an international charity committed to working with local people to develop a balance between their needs and the wildlife with which they share the natural habitat and ecosystems. Global warming is a real issue and is a direct result of your travel. We have teamed up with Climate Care to give you the opportunity to offset the carbon emissions from your flight. You’ll be asked upon booking if you want to donate – with set amounts from £5. As a company we offset the carbon emissions from all staff travel in full. We’ve highlighted a few of the ways in which we offer our support, financially or otherwise, and now you can, too. We have set up our own foundation, which will administer funds donated by you. A small donation of £1 per person will be taken when booking a holiday and that money will be put to good use by one of our carefully selected projects. If you don’t want to make the donation, just tell us when you call. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
