the amazing things you'll be doing
Jordan is a fabulous country rich in historical and natural wonders. From the stunning ruins of the city of Petra to the desert beauty of Wadi Rum, Jordan is a destination you will never forget! From the capital you’ll head to the colonnaded streets and theatres of the nearby Roman ruins at Jerash. Your journey will take you south to Wadi Rum via the mosaics of Madaba and to experience the views from Mt. Nebo – from where Moses first surveyed ‘the promised land’. You head into the desert by 4WD, passing the Mameluke Palace that so captivated Lawrence of Arabia. There’s a good chance you’ll experience the same sense of wonder as you spend a night in a Bedouin tent in the heart of the desert.
From here your journey takes you to the spectacular ruins of Petra, former capital of the Nabataean civilisation, and on to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth. The night skies of Wadi Rum are clear and free of light pollution. Travel with a pair of binoculars and take full advantage of this ideal opportunity to take a closer look at the heavens from your ‘Bedouinstyle’ camp in the desert.
Your accommodation consists of 6 nights in hotels, 1 night in a rest house – possible multi share and 1 night camping. The hotels we use are comfortable three star en suite properties. The desert camp we usually use has a large open Bedouin-style tent for communal sitting and eating. Mattresses, pillows, blankets and sheets are all provided, in your private tent.
Trip price includes: 8 breakfasts, 1 lunch & 3 dinners. For the majority of lunches and dinners you can choose from a wide range of local restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets. The food in the camp is a traditionally prepared Bedouin meal and in the guesthouse you’ll eat from a buffet of freshly prepared food. Typically we use a minibus, usually air-conditioned, with ample room for our group. Your 4WD vehicle in Wadi Rum is a jeep that can seat three people. In the desert you’ll be accompanied by an experienced driver from a nearby village, who knows the terrain well.

over 50s holidays
This trip has been specially designed for, and is exclusive to, travellers over 50. On these trips, the typical group size is just 12, and we never exceed 16. This means better service for you, the chance to use smaller hotels, more freedom to reach out of the way places and more of a sense of camaraderie and fun. Over half of our travellers book independently and we do not charge an additional single supplement. Most travellers are aged between 50 and 70 and there is no upper age limit. It’s attitude and a love of travel that counts!how this holiday makes a difference

Dana Nature Reserve benefits financially from our stay. Money from our visit goes directly to the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature. During your time here, we have also arranged for a presentation on the vital work of the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature and Dana’s story – how it has developed. Our visit to Wadi Rum reinforces in the Bedouin community the need to preserve their cultural heritage and the Bedouin population in Petra also benefit from tourism as many make their living by selling to tourists or by providing services e.g. donkeys, camels, tea houses. There's also an optional visit to a Turkish bath in Wadi Musa, near Petra, directly supporting a local business away from the usual tourist area.
Clients who travel with us will automatically receive a copy of our Responsible Travel leaflet. This contains details and advice on how you can make a positive difference when you travel. We work in partnership with Plan International. Plan works with some of the world’s poorest communities where three out of four children die before the age of five. We also support Friends of Conservation – an international charity committed to working with local people to develop a balance between their needs and the wildlife with which they share the natural habitat and ecosystems. Global warming is a real issue and is a direct result of your travel. We have teamed up with Climate Care to give you the opportunity to offset the carbon emissions from your flight. You’ll be asked upon booking if you want to donate – with set amounts from £5. As a company we offset the carbon emissions from all staff travel in full. We’ve highlighted a few of the ways in which we offer our support, financially or otherwise, and now you can, too. We have set up our own foundation, which will administer funds donated by you. A small donation of £1 per person will be taken when booking a holiday and that money will be put to good use by one of our carefully selected projects. If you don’t want to make the donation, just tell us when you call. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
