how this holiday makes a difference

All our courses are held in local venues and taught by local tutors. In just one weekend you will be trained to teach English as a foreign language and enable to work with communities in the developing world. Learning to speak English affords people better life, work and educational opportunities and this in turn, helps the development and prosperity of their families and communities.
Teaching English overseas is the one of the few truly responsible travel options: you won't just be helping out for a few weeks, you will share your expertise and knowledge of English in the hope of enabling your students to live easier and more prosperous lives. We contribute to our own charity foundation which in turn gives much needed resources to many of the volunteering projects it works with worldwide. In the last 2 years the foundation has distributed just under £100,000. This money has been used for things like: Funding and stocking a portable library for schools in the town of Santiniketan in Northern India. Donating two computers and printers for the Uwawayaki Secondary School in Tanzania. This has helped the school create its own teaching materials and organize a better curriculum. Building a community centre for children in the favelas of Salvador, Brazil. This has had an incredible impact in the area: gun crime is down, gang membership is down and there is a real feeling of optimism amongst volunteers and the staff and kids at the community centre. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
