Czech lands abound with an extraordinary quantity of sights to be found in its many historic towns, and over 2,000 preserved castles and chateaux represent an important part of the national cultural heritage. On the territory of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, all types of medieval castles have been preserved. Similarly, the entire range of historical architectural styles has influenced the appearance of chateaux in our country. Today we can see both pure examples of a single style or structures which have gone through a number of adaptations, resulting in an interesting mixture of styles.

Many of the castles and chateaux attract visitors through a number of programs in addition to the guided tours; these might include nighttime tours, medieval-style tournaments and feasts, international music festivals and competitions. The Czech Republic is also world famous for its excellent beer and wine.

day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Prague. Walk the Royal Route from the Old Town Square to Prague Castle, once the coronation route of the Bohemian kings. On the way you can admire the numerous historic buildings and palaces of all styles from gothic to 20th century architecture. In the evening we will dine at the medieval tavern ‘U Sedmi Svabu'. Here you can expect an outstanding gastronomic experience with a genuine mediaeval feast. The chef prepares the food using recipes from the 15th and 16th century and only ingredients authentic to central European cuisine of the time.
Day 2:Walking in the Bohemian Switzerland National Park - marvellous island of virgin nature in the heart of Europe. It is a land of sandstone rock towns and unexpected views of the numerous gorges. Beauty of the rocks is amplified by the green depth of the surrounding forests. When you look at the rocks from the valleys, which are interlaced with the streams of wild rivers, you can see huge slabs of sandstone piled up one above the other, as though it was a masterpiece of a giant's hand.
Day 3:Kutna Hora. Medieval town of Kutna Hora - a significant historical town offering more than 300 listed pieces of medieval and baroque architecture. Take a look around the centre with the UNESCO listed St. Barbara cathedral and the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Church, the Sedlec Ossuary, a graveyard chapel in the former Cistercian monastery known for it being decorated with human bones.
Day 4:Cruise along the Orlicka dam to the Zvikov Castle - move on to the nearby Orlicka Dam on the Vltava River where you can expect a short, about 45 minute, cruise along the dam towards the Zvikov Castle. The castle belongs to one of the most important Czech Gothic castles. It tends to be called castle of the Czech Kings thanks to its pomposity and location. Visit Pivovarský Dvur Zvikov - the brewery aiming to renew the tradition of the ancient brewery at the Zvikov Castle where beer was made for many centuries. You will get the remarkable experience drinking the unique/original yeast beer together with daily fresh bakery and butchery specialities all handmade there.
Day 5:Renaissance town of Cesky Krumlov - the unique historic complex, containing more than 300 Gothic and Renaissance buildings, has a rarely well-preserved medieval urbanistic composition. The historic core of the town was recorded in the List of the world cultural heritage UNESCO in 1992. Above the Vltava river we will take a walk through the castle and chateau area - the second largest chateau complex (after the Prague castle) in the Czech Republic.
Day 6:On foot from Konepruske caves to Karlstejn Castle - visit the most extensive carst cave system in Czech Republic, famous for Primary fossil findings. After that go to Srbsko village located on the banks of the Berounka River. Then travel on past limestone rocks to a picturesque settlement named Svaty Jan pod Skalou, with its baroque church of St. John the Baptist.Continue on foot following the Vojta Naprstek trail, the oldest marked tourist track in Bohemia past the flooded limestone quarries of Velka and Mala Amerika all the way to the gothic castle of Karlštejn, one of the most famous sights in the Czech Republic.
Day 7:Spa town of Karlovy Vary - situated in a deep valley of the Tepla river in the west of Bohemia. Charles the 4th, the Czech king and the Roman emperor, founded Karlovy Vary around the year 1350. This undoubtedly largest spa town in Bohemia is favoured by its guests from all parts of the World. The ostentatious streets and spa colonnades are surrounded by romantic hilly countryside. The town itself is entwined with kilometres of forest paths, and thus giving many opportunities for lovely walks with unbelievable views of the spa valley.
Day 8:Prague. Departure.
travelling with a local operator
This holiday is operated by a company based in the holiday destination and they will be able to provide expert local knowledge. They will be able to tailor make your holiday to suit your requirements not only concerning the dates of travel but also typically the standard of accommodation, and thus price. It is rare for local operators to be able to help with the booking of your flights.
how this holiday makes a difference
On our tours you will travel in varied small group of like-minded people. The smaller the group, the less it interferes in the everyday life of the visited place. Small group also allow our guide to dedicate more time to making your journey more unique and special.

You will spend your holidays not only by sightseeing, but you can also pursue walking amongst the local people in many visited towns and villages. Instead of moving through great distances and visiting many places in one day, you will get better idea of how the country feels by exploring its local attractions. Czech Republic is rich in UNESCO protected sites and other cultural monuments.

Architecture on Czech Republic tailormade holidayYou will not eat only in international restaurants or fast food chains but rather in local restaurants where traditional food is served and where you can enjoy regional dishes (eg. roasted knuckle of pork served with mustard and horseradish in Prague or fish dishes in Cesky Krumlov) together with excellent beers and wines the country can offer. You can expect a tour around one of the many breweries with an evening get-together in the brewery pub or visit to a South Moravian wine cellar with a professional commentary given by an expert including wine-tasting.

In order to maintain maximum authenticity and comfort, we provide accommodation in smaller family run hotels and guesthouses preferably, with local atmosphere and the possibility of an outdoor seating area.

You will learn a lot more about the culture of the country by personal experience rather than looking at it through a coach window. This way of travelling has the lowest environmental and cultural impact to the visited country and creates a positive experience for all.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
