what excites us about this holiday
The immensity of America’s national parks is awe-inspiring and this tour explores some of their most dramatic and unique scenery. Hiking to the Emerald pools, gazing down Monument Valley and riding at the mountain ranch would be fantastic experiences. Two days to marvel at the Grand Canyon though, is the chance of a lifetime! the amazing things you'll be doing
Departing from Las Vegas it is a comfortable drive to Zion National Park, where nature puts on a show of her own. Hire a bike or visit the ghost town where "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" was filmed, hike to the Emerald Pools of the Virgin River (always a hit with the kids!) or try 'river tubing'. At the end of the day, take a dip or just relax by the pool, taking in the spectacular views of Zion Canyon.
It is just a short, but truly spectacular drive from Zion to Bryce National Park, where wind and water have sculpted a fantasyland of rock spires and formations that almost defy description.
Next stop on the trail is our mountain ranch where you will saddle up for a horseback ride. Then tuck in to some typical western chow before retiring to the lodge or one of the rustic log cabins. From the dusty trail you will head towards Navajo territory and the cooling blue waters of Lake Powell for two days. This huge man-made lake offers swimming and all manner of watersports against the most amazing red-rock backdrop.
From here it is only a short drive to Monument Valley - instantly recognisable from countless western movies - where the Navajo and their ancestors have lived for generations. It is not hard to see why filmmakers, locals and visitors alike find this such a special place. A guided jeep tour takes you off the beaten path and reveals more about the native culture and way of life.
Just when you think you have run out of superlatives, the tour is topped off with one of the world's greatest natural wonders - the Grand Canyon! A two-night stop ensures enough time to experience its splendour.
An optional helicopter or aeroplane ride really puts the immense scale of the place into perspective and the included I-MAX movie allows a fascinating glimpse of some of its hidden secrets. Heading back to Las Vegas via a man-made wonder, the enormous Hoover Dam, the whole family will have packed in enough adventure for a year!
National Park Service Junior Ranger Programme
The goal of the program is to introduce children to the wonders of the national parks and their role in preserving them for the future. To become a Junior Ranger in most national parks families will need to purchase an activity newspaper, complete the requirements described and have it checked at one of the visitor centres. Children are then awarded an official Junior Ranger patch. Requirements for completion vary from park to park but may include attending a ranger-led program, hiking on a park trail, or completing activity pages that encourage direct experience and discovery learning in diverse park environments.

travellers' tales
The evening jeep tour round Monument Valley with a Navajho guide and finishing up on a cook out under the cliffs will stick with me forever. (more)
small group family holiday
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age is usually 5) and some older (perhaps travelling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip how this holiday makes a difference

This trip is designed for families who want to explore the Southwest United States’ natural beauty and discover why visitors are so passionate about this beautiful region. We travel in small, intimate groups (maximum of 13 passengers) and have the benefit of a professionally trained local guide who knows the best places in the national parks, national monuments and wilderness areas to respectfully observe wildlife, to enjoy fun, adventurous activities and appreciate the flavours of the local culture. We overnight in locally owned 2-3 star hotels and lodges, eat our meals in locally owned restaurants and utilize established local suppliers for activities en route that help support local business and keep money in the community.
We have over 12 years of experience operating small-group adventure tours throughout North/Central/South America that foster understanding, appreciation and conservation of the cultures and environments we visit. We are committed to working with our clients and the peoples of our host destinations to ensure direct economic benefits at a community level. Whether we visit Grand Canyon National Park or Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Lands, we aim to operate beyond best practice guidelines and to provide a tour programme that creates a positive impact on the lands that we visit and a lasting impression for those who travel with us. We achieve this by implementing the following methods. The tour is led by one of our fully trained local guides. Prior to leading our groups, guides must successfully complete our pre-season intensive training programme which lasts approximately 4 weeks. During this time we support the guides with accommodation, activities and supplemental salary. We utilize private vehicle and local suppliers for accommodation and activities throughout to ensure the economic benefit stays in the local community. This includes working with locally owned ranch/horse-riding/cycling/etc operators and lodging in locally owned hotels/lodges whenever possible. Also, we work directly with our long-established friends in the native Navajo Indian community and they provide us with an included cultural and historic tour of Monument Valley Tribal Lands. As this is a lodging based tour, we endeavour to eat our meals in locally owned, family run restaurants which supports local business, as well as allows passengers to experience local flavour and mix with local people when appropriate. On this tour, we include visits and entry admission to all national parks and monuments listed in the itinerary. Fees support park upkeep and conservation projects, and we encourage our clients to visit the visitor centres for additional information about the region. Our published traveller’s code of conduct is further promoted by our leaders throughout the tour, and particularly in the first night’s orientation talk. This includes policies on the following: We partner with Climate Care to encourage clients to off-set domestic/international flights. We are committed to off-set vehicles’ emissions and as such, we match client contributions up to £5,000 per year. 100% of our UK corporate headquarters’ power is green (renewable). We contribute to local charities and projects such as “Tourism Cares for America” (of which we are a founding member), “Friends of Big Bend” and the “Mojave Desert Land Trust”- organizations dedicated to improving and/or expanding national parks. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
