the amazing things you'll be doing
Our estate has everything to inspire you to bring out the best in your art. Whether you wish to paint the Castle in all its Baronial splendour, the crags of Lochnagar or deer grazing in Glen Muick, you will find what you are looking for here.

Couple this with absolute peace, clean air and crystal clear light and it is hard to think of anywhere in Britain more suited to painting holidays.

The residential painting holidays have been very popular so we are now running a series of holidays in spring and autumn.
Scotland painting holidays tutors
Susie Hunt specialises in workshops on watercolour, mixed media and life work. She is a stimulating and thoughtful tutor who encourages all levels of ability. With a strong foundation in traditional techniques, she moves her classes gently into the contemporary use of water-based media. Susie will be hosting the autumn painting holidays.

Sue Ford is a successful exhibitor, tutor and demonstrator, painting commissions, especially portraits and animals. During the course Sue will demonstrate a variety of subjects and show students different painting techniques, explain about materials, the importance of composition and getting the best from your photos and sketches. Sue will be hosting a spring painting holiday (9 Mar 2008).

Michael Kitchen is a professional artist, demonstrator to art societies and a very enthusiastic, sensitive tutor with a lifetime’s painting experience. Conscious that everyone’s requirements are different Michael ensures that guests receive plenty of genuine teaching, personal tuition and lots of encouragement. Michael will be hosting a spring painting holiday (16 Mar 2008).
Scotland painting holidays itinerary
On the Sunday you can arrive any time from 12 noon to meet your tutor for the week and settle into your room before getting together with the other guests for an evening meal in The Pipers Hall.

After dinner your tutor will run through the plans for the week and then you will have the chance to stroll around the grounds of the Castle before retiring for the evening and preparing for the week ahead.

The course finishes after breakfast on the Saturday, when we say our good byes. If required we can collect you and take you back to the airport or railway station in Aberdeen.
how this holiday makes a difference
Our estate is situated in the Cairngorm National Park; an area which boasts 25% of Britain’s endangered wildlife. During this holiday you will have the opportunity witness the balance between the conservation of the natural environment whilst sustaining the small communities who undertake the conservation work.

On our Scotland painting holidays you will also meet our Ranger Service who monitor the wildlife and habitats on the estate as well as advise the 120,000 visitors who come to walk in the 18.5K Hectares of mountain and moorland. We make no apology at trying to educate as many customers as possible about the challenges faced by a Highland Estate in the 21st century, managing the landscape in a way which is both ecologically and financially sustainable.

Squirrel painted, Scotland painting holidaysDuring our Scotland painting holidays all the food will be prepared on site and as these holidays are outside the main tourist season you will be providing important revenue to the local butcher, baker, and grocer as well as employment to local people.

Come on the train and we will collect you from the railway station. Leave the car at home for this holiday. If you need something during your stay; rest assured we will get it for you. You will see us recycling glass, plastic, paper and vegetable scraps which are composted for the estate gardens.

Our efforts to operate our business in a sustainable way have been independently assessed by Visit Scotland the Scottish Tourist Board who have awarded us with a silver Green Tourism Business Scheme award.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
