the amazing things you'll be doing
Spend your days surfing in Florianopolis or wind/kite surfing on Brazil's north east coast.
Head to the dune covered coast of Brazil’s north east and some of the best wind and kite surfing in the world. Or choose the fantastic breaks of Florianopolis for a world class surfing vacation. Then spend the rest of your trip in the iconic city of Rio de Janeiro in your own luxury, serviced penthouse on Ipanema beach.
Wind or kite surfing option: Considered one of the most beautiful coastlines on the planet, regular 25 knot wind speeds make northern Brazil a Mecca for wind and kite surfers alike who come from all over the world to take advantage of the perfect conditions. Whether you’re an old hand with your own rig, or a novice looking for expert instruction, this is the perfect place to improve your skills. When you land in Fortaleza you’ll be met in arrivals and driven off up the coast towards the equator. You’ll leave the city behind and head for a land of dusty tracks, huge white sand dunes and swaying palm trees.
Surrounded by palms and cashew trees, you´ll stay in your own beautifully designed chalet right on the beach. As well as serving a fantastic breakfast, the hotel also has a great restaurant and pool and you can even get a massage after a long day on your board. Apart from the star packed sky, the evenings here are also full of local culture. There are some great seafood restaurants to try, plenty of bars to check out and you can get involved as much or as little as you like.
For true wind and kite surfing junkies, this trip is a must, but even if the surf isn´t quite your thing, don´t worry as there´s lots more to this area than watersports. We can arrange for you to try horse riding, dune buggying, hiking, sand boarding & fishing - or even arrange a day by one of the many crystal clear lagoons deep in the sand dunes.
Florianopolis surfing option: With a seemingly endless coastline of fantastic surf beaches, the state of Santa Caterina and inparticular the area around Florianopolis is considered by far Brazil´s top surfing destination.
Overlooking one of the states most beautiful beaches, your boutique pousada is the ideal base for a week of surfing. With waves for all levels of experience you´re spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding where to spend your days. Your pousada has a great restaurant and pool with fantastic views of the ocean. It also has a sauna, gym and mini spa to help you relax after a long day on your board. As far as surfing trips to South America go, this is about as good as it gets, and even if you don´t want to spend the whole week on your board, there is plenty more to do - from horse riding to hiking, boat trips to diving. Or you could just relax and let the world go by – it´s up to you.
When you arrive in Rio, you´ll be collected in arrivals and driven to your beautifully designed boutique hotel in an exclusive neighbourhood in the hills above Leblon. The hotel has wonderful spaces for you to relax in, a lovely pool and stunning views of Christ the Redeemer and Rio´s Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. During your stay, on a morning that suites you, you´ll be collected by your guide and Rio local Geraldo who will take you on your own private tour of this fantastic city. You´ll see the beautiful architecture of Rio´s old quarter, the breath taking views from the iconic Christ the Redeemer, and even get the chance to stop for a caipirinha at the world famous Copacabana Palace. The city has some fantastic restaurants, bars and clubs, and being based here, we are perfectly placed to give you all the right advice about how to get the most out of the wonderful place. Also, if boutique hotels aren´t your thing, we can put you up in your very own luxury, serviced penthouse with panoramic Rio views right on the beach in Ipanema.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
All the hotels we use are locally owned and run. We also only ever use local transfer companies and also, should they be required, local surfing and kite surfing instructors. This not only benefits the surrounding community and boosts the local economy, it also ensures that our clients have a more authentic experience during their trip.
For kite surfing, our favourite area on Brazil’s north coast is a National Park and as such is an environmentally protected area. Along with the government agencies of IBAMA and SEMACE, we support the goals of the Ecocidadania Project which aims to preserve the environment and the local culture through education, recycling and reuse to reduce pollution as well as working hard to develop realistic and sustainable ecotourism. The accommodation we use on Brazil’s north coast is one of only few hotels located right on the beach within this environmentally protected area. It is locally staffed, uses only local produce for its menus and recycles or reuses wherever possible. Likewise, our small, partner hotel in Rio is staffed entirely by locals, used fans as opposed to air conditioning and also has a strict policy for recycling. £20 from every holiday we sell goes to support a project run by Regua aimed at protecting and replanting the Atlantic rain forest in Rio state, and a Rio based NGO which provides educational courses for the community of Vidigal – one of the city´s favelas or slums. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
