the amazing things you'll be doing
Visit the world’s most spectacular waterfalls at Foz do Iguacu, explore the stunning Brazilian Pantanal and relax in your very own serviced, Ipanema penthouse in wonderful Rio de Janeiro.

You arrive in Iguacu where you’ll be met in arrivals by your guide who will drive you to the Iguacu National Park and the Brazilian side of the falls, where you’ll get your first glimpse of this amazing natural wonder.

You’ll have a private tour of the Brazilian side before heading across the border into Argentina where you’ll spend the next 2 nights and get right up close to the awesome Gargantta del Diablo or Devil´s Throat, the centre piece of the Argentinean falls.

Arguably the most spectacular in the World, the falls at Iguacu straddle the border between Argentina and the southern Brazilian state of Parana. The system of 270 falls stretches for over a mile and a half and has an annual peak flow of over 6 million litres per second. The most impressive fall - the Devil’s Throat, is a 150 meter wide horseshoe which marks the border between the two countries. You’ll stay in Puerto Foz on the Argentinean side from where you are perfectly located to explore one of the wonders of the World.

When you land in the Pantanal, you’ll be met in arrivals by your English speaking guide who will drive you to your lake side eco lodge in the state of Mato Grosso. The Pantanal is not only South America’s primary wildlife sanctuary and a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it is also the largest wetland on the planet. Located right in the centre of the continent, it is a true bio-geographic mixing bowl. Containing elements of Amazon Rain Forest, Caatinga, Brazilian Savannah, Atlantic Rainforest and the Paraguayan Chaco, its fantastic biodiversity includes 698 species of bird, 80 different mammals, 260 species of fish and 50 different reptiles. The lake on which your eco lodge sits is home to a huge array of wildlife and from here you are perfectly located to explore all that this fantastic region has to offer. During your stay you’ll have a full schedule of private guided tours - some by boat, some on foot and some on horseback. Your stay at the eco lodge is all inclusive.

After 3 full days of private tours in the Pantanal you’ll be ready to relax in style in a fantastic, luxury, serviced penthouse right on the beach in Ipanema. The apartment is decorated to the highest standard and well equipped with king-size beds, Italian linen sheets, Plasma TV, ipod dock, wireless internet and a large DVD collection including Brazilian films and music. It also has a well stocked bar meaning you can mix yourself a caipirinha, relax on the roof terrace and watch the sunset beyond the mountains. In the garage you will also find your own surf boards and bicycles. Every morning you’ll wake up to a fantastic breakfast served out on the terrace where you can enjoy the sun & wonderful panoramic views. Rio is packed with things to do and your stay here also includes your own private, guided city tour and a trip up the Corcovado to Christ the Redeemer. And being based in Rio, we are perfectly placed to give you all the right advice about how to get the most out of the wonderful city. If penthouse luxury isn’t your thing, we can also put you up in our favourite Rio boutique hotel, tucked away in the hills above Leblon with fantastic views of Christ the Redeemer and Rio´s Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.
travelling with a local operator
This holiday is operated by a company based in the holiday destination and they will be able to provide expert local knowledge. They will be able to tailor make your holiday to suit your requirements not only concerning the dates of travel but also typically the standard of accommodation, and thus price. It is rare for local operators to be able to help with the booking of your flights.
how this holiday makes a difference
All the hotels we use are locally owned and run. We also only ever use local guides. This not only benefits the surrounding community and boosts the local economy, it also ensures that our clients have a more authentic experience during their trip. Our partner lodge in the Pantanal conforms to strict guidelines governing construction and environmental protection within the Pantanal and also holds a ‘Bem Receber’ certificate from SEBRAE and EMBRATUR (the Brazilian Institute of Tourism) which are only awarded to companies who can demonstrate a commitment to sustainable ecotourism.

In addition, part of the cost of this trip goes towards supporting the lodge’s ongoing environmental monitoring and maintenance programmes. The lodge has a strict recycling policy and is also one of only a few in the Pantanal with onsite waste & water treatment. Over 90% of its staff are from the local area and have all received vocational training provided by the lodge which in turn is able to offer them a viable economic future.

As with all our holidays, our sustainable tourism policy means that all trips and tours in the itinerary are conducted in small groups of between 2 and 12 people to ensure a minimal impact on the environment. Everything that is taken on a tour is brought back and wherever possible, all waste products are recycled. We use local, expert guides whose main priority is to educate our clients and teach them about how we can protect and maintain this wonderfully diverse and beautiful area for the enjoyment of future generations. £20 from every holiday we sell goes to support a project run by Regua aimed at protecting and replanting the Atlantic rain forest in Rio state and a Rio based NGO which provides educational courses for the community of Vidigal – one of the city´s favelas.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
