travelling with a local operator
This holiday is operated by a company based in the holiday destination and they will be able to provide expert local knowledge. They will be able to tailor make your holiday to suit your requirements not only concerning the dates of travel but also typically the standard of accommodation, and thus price. It is rare for local operators to be able to help with the booking of your flights.
how this holiday makes a difference
To climb the different mountains, we buy fresh local produce. In preference we choose local over imported goods, encouraging the use of Andean products in our cooking.

In line with our strong stance on responsible tourism, all guides on this trip are local Ecuadorians; they have excellent indigenous knowledge of the area and high degree of training. This makes for a more enlightening experience as you learn of the country's flora, fauna and local culture first hand. All our accommodations belong to the indigenous community.

To climb any mountain (Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Illinizas) our groups are maximum 8 people, and there is one guide for each 2 people. We work with groups maximum 8 people because we have the environmental responsibility to protect and avoid environmental impact. We used the established footpaths in the national park, because we know that around the footpath there are wild species of native and endemic plants. We prohibit our tourists go outside the footpath, because they could step on any wildlife of the place. In addition each passenger receive plastic covers to gather their rubbish.

In the interpretation centre, the tourists receive a talk about the National Park species that are in extinction. Also they talk about how each person can help to conserve and to protect the planet. The money that our tourists pay in the National Parks for the entrance help to protect the area, and all wildlife.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
