the amazing things you'll be doing
The Abel Tasman Coastal walk is the most popular walk in New Zealand. It is renowned for its beautiful golden beaches and its calm turquoise seas, set in Tasman Bay.

Our day walk is one section of this trail, from Awaroa Inlet to Totaranui. We have chosen this section of the trail as ecologically we believe this to be the best section of the Abel Tasman to see how this beautiful forest once was.

Giant beech and rata trees festooned with vines and ferns. We will take our time so as to enjoy the atmosphere of this forest and the bays along the way.

We are conservation based and have a vast knowledge of the flora and fauna of this area, and New Zealand’s ecological history. The walk is tidal dependant, so we will do it from either way, depending on the tide of the day.

Our travel one way to the walks start is by boat – a great way to see the entire coast. Our other way (in or out depending on tides) is a choice of 3: by boat again, or by road – via beautiful Golden Bay and the Takaka Hill (known as Marble Mountain, and featured in Lord of the Rings), or by plane. This is a wonderful way to see Abel Tasman in its entirety.

Itinerary
A pick up from your accommodation, and depending on tide times, we will either get the Sea Shuttle or the option of your choice, and enter Able Tasman.

The walk is about 5 hours and will take you through a wonderland temperate rain forest. The trail hugs the coast for its majority, so you will be rewarded with sights of this wonderful coast line - you will realise why it is the most popular walk in the country.

We will stop at one of the lovely golden sand beaches and enjoy a freshly made picnic lunch. Time also for a swim if you would like. The day will be approximately 7 to 8 hours, depending on your option choice.
how this holiday makes a difference
We use all locally owned and operated businesses associated with this trip. We totally support networking with local businesses as this keeps revenue in our local area, which is very important here, as tourism is one of our highest income earners. We use locally grown fresh foods. All of our guides are local people with a passion for our natural ecology like we have.

As in all our trips, we endeavour to educate our clients on the conservation of this area, and indeed, New Zealand in general. All rubbish associated with this trip is carried out of the park. A donation on every booking is given to one of three conservation projects, protecting our vulnerable native birds from introduced mammalian predators:
  • Friends of Flora Inc
  • Friends of Mangarakau
  • Our own Cobb Valley conservation project
  • Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
