the amazing things you'll be doing
Geiranger Fjord (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is one of nature’s masterpieces. “The world’s most beautiful fjord” is no exaggeration and it is amidst this dramatic mountain magic that you’ll experience some of Norway’s most spectacular sea kayaking.

The intense sun brings a tropical like warmth to the steep mountain walls, as high as 1500 m, where farms perched on rocky ledges tell tales of children and animals that had to be tethered so they would not fall over the steep cliffs. The Seven Sisters and other cascading waterfalls are truly magnificent.

A kayak is, without a doubt, the best way to experience Mother Nature’s overpowering command in Geiranger Fjord. The fjord basin curves between towering mountain peaks so is virtually free from wind: a beautiful place every day of the year.

Geiranger Fjord boasts many spectacular day trips for the adventure minded traveller. For the past five years we have been leading trips to all of Geiranger Fjord’s treasures.

Sea kayak beneath the power of towering mountains, and past cascading waterfalls to the base of footpaths that lead to historic high mountain farms. Stretch your legs on short hikes up to breathtaking vistas.
day tours
Tours depart at 11am and you should expect to be out for 5-7 hours:

  • Skageflå: Skageflå is one of a handful farms along the sides of Geiranger Fjord in Norway. It was actually two farms, which shared the location; Skageflå was at its time one of the richer farms and had 2 or 3 mountain pastures for its animals. Skageflå lies approximately 250m above the fjord. One can reach Skageflå from Geiranger.
  • Knivsflå: Knivsflå is one of a handful of farms along the sides of Geiranger Fjord in Norway. Actually it was two farms sharing the location. Knivsflå was abandoned in 1898 due to danger of falling rocks. Knivsflå lies approximately 250m above the fjord. One can reach Knivsflå from Geiranger.
  • Tour of the waterfalls
  • The Skgeflå Combination (paddle to Skageflå & hike back to the village of Geiranger)
  • how this holiday makes a difference
Sea kayaking, Day trip in Norwegian FjordsCo2 neutral is the way we travel; help off-set your carbon consumption by spending the day with us paddling and hiking to the magical places along the worlds most photographed fjord. This day trip puts the environment first. We kayak and hike because it is quiet and clean. Through self power we are able to travel in relative silence and experience sensitive habitats up close. Careful environmental planning and small, intimate group size minimises the impact of our visit while maximizing the cultural and wildlife aspects of the outing. Sustainable travel that benefits the local regions we work in is a key factor in everything that we do.

    Economic difference
  • Purchasing locally, to support local grocery stores and eateries, we also prioritise purchasing organic vegetables, fruits and meats.
  • Recommending locally owned and operated accommodation facilities such as Hotels, Inns, Guest Houses, Bed & Breakfasts & Campgrounds
  • We offer a free training and educational program for potential local guides.

    Environmental Difference
  • Carbon Neutral we utilise our own energy for transportation by sea kayaking and hiking.
  • Our aim is to leave the places we visit as we found them. “If it doesn’t grow there, don’t leave it there.” We encourage clients to help us so that the next person can see the same untouched field of arctic cotton grass, the same clean turquoise water. Taking pictures rather than, for example, a bouquet is enforced.
  • We adhere to the principles and guidelines of Leave No Trace - a US based non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and inspiring responsible outdoor recreation. Leave No Trace builds awareness, appreciation and respect for ethical recreational use of wilderness areas as well as private and public lands.
  • We have implemented waste management in the form of recycling at our base of operations in Geiranger. Through this program we have managed to reduce our disposable waste by 50%. We actively encourage all participants to participate in waste reduction and recycling.

    Social Difference
  • We contribute to local restoration projects and organisations. We contribute financially and by volunteering to the organisation Friends of Storfjord a local society that restores and maintains historic High Mountain Farms along Storfjord and Geiranger fjord.
  • Our trips are cultural orientated with an in-depth orientation in the local culture and history of the area. We work closely with the local heritage centre and historians to provide a full understanding of the history, culture, traditions and people unique to this area.
  • Our group sizes are kept small in order to adhere to the carrying capacity of this region. Size does not exceed 10 participants at any time in order to have the least amount of impact on the area and to provide for the enjoyment of our clients.
  • Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
