the amazing things you'll be doing
Sail with us around the Greek islands for a week and learn all you need to know to get started in underwater photography!

Join us on an unusual photographic trip and get introduced to a photographer's unique way of viewing and experiencing the underwater environment and its inhabitants. Underwater photography cannot exist without the love for the marine environment. The underwater photographer, more than any other diver, comes face to face with all the underwater beings and experiences first-hand the life aquatic

This contact will open the door to a whole new world for you, where the diver really becomes one with the underwater setting, enjoying the undersea light and shadows, motion, interacting with marine wildlife. You will approach the moving animals in such a way as not to frighten them, observe and record different behaviours and draw pleasure from the experience of just being there and living the moment!

During this course, you will have the chance to:
  • Learn the basics about marine life and be able to identify the key species you will encounter
  • Be introduced to the basic photographic techniques
  • Get to know the underwater photographer's tools and have a hands-on experience by using our underwater equipment
  • Learn as you practice for 7 whole days and grow your own personal style of u/w photography
  • Get advice on improving your u/w photography techniques and tips on getting mouth-opening photo captures!
  • Get introduced into the basics of digital image processing
This course will involve 6 unique photo-oriented dives (minimum!) while sailing around the Greek islands. It will be led by our underwater photographer Yiannis Issaris. In order to ensure the maximum attention of Yiannis, only 5 experienced licensed divers (PADI Open Water, CMAS One Star Diver etc) can participate this time. Be one of them!

Our sailing boat: Our boat can accommodate 8 people in its 4 double cabins. In order to guarantee the maximum space and comfort for our guests, we accept up to 5 licensed divers (PADI Open Water, CMAS One Star Diver and so on) each week, while keeping the cost at a minimum. The skipper and crew are licensed PADI Divemaster and Instructor and will guide you through this journey into the big blue.
how this holiday makes a difference
This underwater photography course has an eco focus. It teaches divers how to interact with marine life and grow more intimate connections with the world they visit. To become a good underwater photographer it’s essential that you appreciate and understand the underwater beings that you come face to face with. If you understand them, you know where to find them, how to approach them in order not to scare them and disrupt their life, how to observe their behaviours and capture a unique picture showing to the rest of the world the magic of the underwater world.

The course starts with a presentation on marine ecology and conservation and each dive is followed by a discussion of the species that have been observed and photographed.

In general with all our trips, we’re trying through our activities to encourage travellers, and divers more specifically in this situation, to approach places they visits with greater understanding and respect. A few of our activities and actions related to the marine environment:
  • We use biodegradable cleaning products and avoid the dump of chemicals into the see.
  • We inform our guests upon arrival that they shouldn’t throw any kind of waste in the sea and they should recycle plastic bottles in the designated place.
  • We try to minimise the impact of our boat on the marine environment by using the motor as little as possible, mainly just to enter and leave the port.
  • We avoid, when mooring the boat, to throw the anchor on meadows of Poseidonia Oceanica which are essential for the ecosystem. We always use permanent moorings when provided.
  • We brief our guests not to collect any corals or shells from the sea or beach. They are encouraged though to help us clean any garbage that they see inside the water or on the beach.
  • We organise free Marine ecology seminars for diving instructors and present a brief version of this to every diver that joins us. This involves a briefing on how to monitor the level of anthropogenic impact on a marine site and warn our scientist of any deterioration they observe.
  • We organise an annual underwater eco photography with the aim of raising awareness for the protection of marine sites and our seas. This project is headed by the environmentalist in our team.
When our sailing boat, is not chartered, we sail around cleaning beaches, recycling or giving a helping hand to researchers and organisations in their efforts to collect data in order to study and protect the environment and wildlife.

Our base has become the island of Syros where most of the maintenance work is carried out. We employ locals for all the jobs concerning the boat. We buy materials for the maintenance of the boat from local shops. We encourage guests to visit and try the local cuisine and purchase local goods wherever we go in order to get a taste of the local culture and also support the local community.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
