the amazing things you'll be doing
The course is open to anyone who wishes to study yoga in depth, whether or not you want to become a teacher and regardless of previous experience. The main requirement is an open heart and a willingness to learn this ancient art. The course will tell you if you want to teach and most people who have done it go on to do so very successfully. The course includes extensive study of the asanas (postures), in the Sivananda tradition. You will have two asana classes a day, one for your personal practice and one teaching you how to teach. Assisting Barbara Gordon on this course are Swami Saradananda, Monica Farrell and Dr Prabhakar Madhikar.

You will also have a great deal of teaching practice under supervision and by the end of the course you will have taught two full classes. The emphasis of the course is that you have an in depth knowledge of the asanas and how to teach them safely. Most people find the course life changing due to the intensity of it. This is not just about learning yoga but deeply learning about yourself. The hotel is situated right on the beach and has its own coral reef - great for snorkeling and diving. You can also windsurf, hike and ride horses. Alcohol and drugs are strictly forbidden. If you smoke cigarettes it is requested you try to keep it to a minimum and do it away from the group.

The cost includes all courses, B&B accommodation at the hotel in twin rooms, with a mountain view and transfers to and from Sharm Airport. There is a supplement for single rooms and sea view. Dinner is available for a very low cost at the hotel restaurant. The Yoga Teacher's Training Course is recognised by The Yoga Alliance, The British Yoga Teacher's Association and by all major insurers.

how this holiday makes a difference
The hotel where our guests stay is Bedouin owned and we have a long standing relationship with them. That is, our team includes the local people—they are not simply hired labor. We have our midday meals with Bedouin in their cafes. Because we speak the language of Egypt and live there we also introduce the guests to other income generating activities that our hosts promote such as: the handicrafts made by women, local food, camel expeditions and treks. The most important difference we make is in the intention and ability we have to cooperate and learn from our hosts. Cultural exchange and respect is fundamental to our program as yoga is a spiritual and moral exercise for the wellbeing of all. We give what is lacking in most mass tourist activities—ie. An aid for travelers to get to know the culture in which they are visiting in a down to earth and real way. We pay our workers fairly and encourage travelers to follow the protocol for a Muslim, tribal culture.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
