introduction to Kimberley tour in Western Australia

Experience the stark beauty of the Kimberley as you roam from the saltwater Bardi culture, pristine beaches and rugged red cliffs of Cape Leveque to the surreal rockscape of the Bungle Bungle beehives and the hidden waterfalls and palm oases of Echidna Chasm and Cathedral Gorge. This trip is like no other as it explores both well-known sights and some of the hidden treasures of this extraordinary, remote part of Australia.
day-by-day itinerary
Days 1-2:Broome/Cape Leveque. From Broome, see Beagle Bay's mother-of-pearl church altar and hunt for bush tucker through Bardi saltwater country. Tuck into fresh billy tea and campfire-baked damper then reach wild Cape Leveque in time for a barbecue dinner. Be soothed to sleep by the sound of waves. The next day, snorkel, fish, kayak or lounge on a soft, sandy beach.
Day 3:One Arm Point/Broome. Travel to the One Arm Point community at the tip of the Dampier Peninsula, the ideal spot to view the spectacular Buccaneer Archipelago and see huge tidal flows. These coral lagoons are home to saltwater crocodiles and sea snakes. Tour the Aquaculture Hatchery then enjoy a friendly lunch in the Lombadina community before returning to Broome.
Day 4:Geikie Gorge/Fitzroy Crossing. Picnic by the Fitzroy River then cruise the majestic Geikie Gorge, spotting crocodiles, birds and fish.
Days 5-6:Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungle Ranges). See the huge China Wall quartz vein and striped 'beehive' domes. Marvel at Echidna Chasm's towering palm trees.
Day 7:Mimbi Caves. Delve into Dreamtime with a Gooniyandi guide. Hear traditional stories and learn the secrets of Mimbi Caves, a sanctuary of crystal clear pools, rare fossils and ancient rock art.
Day 8:Windjana Gorge/Broome. Once an ancient reef, Windjana Gorge teems with freshwater crocodiles, birds and bush tucker. Explore Tunnel Creek's caves and cool off in a waterhole. Return to Broome.

award winner

The central tenet of the Awards, in which winners are nominated by tourists, is that all types of tourism – from niche to mainstream – can and should be operated in a way that respects and benefits destinations and local people.
how this holiday makes a difference
In Australia we are committed to preserving the fragile desert environment and are well versed in ways of minimising the impact of activities such as driving through remote areas and camping in the bush.

During our Kimberley tour, our group leaders take active steps to ensure our groups behave in an environmentally responsible manner, such as sticking to established trails, not leaving anything behind and not removing any plants. They are also always eager to share information about their country and culture. We spend the day with our local Bunuba guide for an insight into the regions indigenous river culture. We also meet the Lombadina community, a beautiful and welcoming community, which is home to a local craft shop and interesting bush timber church.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
