the amazing things you'll be doing
The highlights of this multi-activity adventure package include canoeing, hiking and biking in the area around the Plitvice Lakes National Park, an area of breathtaking views and stunning scenery. The park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, plays host to 16 lakes, numerous waterfalls fed by both the Black and White Rivers, and seemingly endless forests. The itinerary will also take you on a journey down the Mreznica, Zrmanja and Krupa rivers by kayak with an option to raft on either the Dobra or Una River, along the border between Croatia and Bosnia. Join us in this small Mediterranean country that's big on adventure. With delicious Croatian fare and intimate lodgings it's easy to see why both Lonely Planet and National Geographic have called Croatia a "must do" destination.

Accommodation is provided by the families of Korana Village, a small romantic place hidden away in a valley surrounding both sides of the river in Plitvice National Park. The houses are small, traditional dwellings with simple rooms in an idyllic setting. The peaceful atmosphere makes for an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area. The combination of activity, scenery and cultural immersion makes this journey a unique and unforgettable experience.

Please note: Itinerary is subject to change due to weather (wind and waves) conditions and special events or attractions.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Leaving Zagreb or Zadar airport behind, we make our way to Korana Village in Plitvice Lakes National Park. After settling into your accommodations, join other group members for an informal welcome drink and evening snack by the river.
Day 2:Cycle through forests, between hills and across green fields in the Croatian countryside. Our road will lead us to the Barac caves for a guided underground tour. After visiting the caves, we’ll have a picnic lunch and time to relax in a local park. In the afternoon we bike back to Korana Village in time to enjoy a traditional Croatian evening meal.
Day 3:Kayaking expedition down the Mreznica River. The journey meanders through a spectacular landscape of forests, open meadows and travertine waterfalls. The calm, clear pools provide plenty of opportunities to cool off with a swim. Later in the day, we will explore the numerous streams and mills of Rastoke on foot.
Day 4:Expedition into the canyon and waterfalls of the upper Mreznica, This is the most beautiful part of the river. We travel down a deep, narrow canyon and bypass cascading waterfalls - up to 10 meters high.
Day 5:Canoeing down the magnificent wild-west-like canyons of the Zrmanja and Krupa Rivers. Enjoy easy rapids, swimming in crystal clear waters and a shower under waterfalls.
Day 6:Plitvice Lakes National Park hiking around 16 emerald green and opal blue lakes, passing along numerous waterfalls and caves. Later in the afternoon you can enjoy taking a swim in warm water just in front of your house.
Day 7:A day to be spent at leisure in the village, or as an alternative, taking an optional trip of hiking, walking or swimming in the surrounding area.
Day 8:Depart Korana village for the airport and flight home.

small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.
how this holiday makes a difference
Community:
By booking this trip you bring much needed income to the people who are still recovering from the war-torn years, as this was the area severely affected by war. This trip ensures that the local people benefit as much as possible in the form of jobs (we employ local guides and drivers) and provision of accommodation (we use family owned hotels or home stays with local family). We also use local transfer services, buy food from the small farms and work on developing responsible waste management by stimulating waste recycle.

By buying local products you are supporting this country’s economy and helping Croatia to stand on her feet again! We consider it our responsibility to lead efforts to maintain and preserve the integrity of this fledgling sector by petitioning the introduction of tighter controls over the use of the country’s natural resources.

As a company, we support the local community by building camps in partnership with local families, building bridges and accesses to the rivers. In order to preserve traventine barriers on Zrmanja River we have built wooden detour bridges. We also support an orphan bear shelter in Kutarevo.

The Korana Village has less than a dozen houses and it is situated on both sides of a small river of the same name, at the end of a dead-end road in Plitvice Lakes National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Site. Travel agencies or tour operators never showed interest in the place that cannot accommodate more than 20 tourists and whose road is too narrow for a tourist bus. Like in no other hotel room you have stayed in, these traditional houses are perched on the very edge of the river bank. Hear firsthand how this village has managed to preserve their tradition and rebuild all family houses after it has been torn down and burned in the war.

Our local guides are cooks and are famous for their delicious cuisine. We keep a full stock of supplies and stop frequently at local shops to load up on fresh food suplies to ensure our meals are always healthy and nutritive sufficient with a touch of tradition.

Environment:
On our trips we bike on pawed roads only, walk and hike on bitten paths and admonish our guests not to feed, fish, hunt and disturb animals. In our office we minimize printing actions and recycle paper. Most of all, we ensure that negative environmental impacts are drawn to a minimum.

3/4 of a million tourists have visited this area in 2007, but we bring bicycles, canoes and kayaks that take our friends to places that only a couple of hundreds of those get to see and experience: best preserved, remote, quiet and most romantic.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
