the amazing things you'll be doing
Set in the heart of Europe, Slovenia is a hugely varied country with high Alps, lowlands, vineyards and the Carst and coastal region.
This trip focuses on a very western part of Slovenia. Just next to Italy, there is an unspoiled valley with the turquoise blue river Soca running through it, surrounded almost completely with high peaks, amazing gorges and green forests. The perfect destination for active holidays which you are about to experience at its best. You only need to bring swimming trunks, towel and a big smile, and who knows, maybe we’ll discover a new future world champion in white water kayak!
Tolmin is the town we are heading to. It’s a small destination just on the outskirts of the Alps of no more than 4000 people, but still the centre of the valley with all the services you need including daily market with home made farm products.
Our accommodation is Hotel Krn, which is ideally situated just in the centre of Tolmin, with comfortable en suit twins, doubles, triples and quad bedrooms available. It has a variety of meals and home made products at the bar which you shouldn’t miss out on. It has a spacious terrace where you can enjoy the late afternoon view over the Alps.

day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1: | Transfer from airport to Tolmin, introductory meeting and welcome drink. Entertainment programme in the evening. |
| Day 2: | Scenic mountain biking to town Kobarid, 12 km from Tolmin, and climbing on artificial wall in campsite next to Soca river with amazing view. If any energy left, we can visit ‘healing water’ on the way back. |
| Day 3: | Whole day mini rafting trip on the emerald Soca river with paddling, swimming, water games and barbecue. Excellent mix of relaxation and skills. |
| Day 4: | Discovering the old world in a fun and exciting way! Old local usages will be demonstrated in a way that everyone can gain something from by trying them out or even creating some. Funny, relaxed day in a lovely place next to the river with swimming if it gets too hot. Plenty of hammocks for the more laid back among us. |
| Day 5: | Free day with many possibilities like visiting famous Lake Bled and swimming there, exploring nearby cultural and historic heritage ( Highly rewarded Museum of WW1 Soca Front), visiting refreshing and picturesque Tolminka Gorge, or maybe just relaxing next to turquoise Soca river… |
| Day 6: | Canyoning! Short walk in a picturesque Prsjak gorge and then sliding and jumping down the stream with escalating height up to 27 meter waterfall, assisted with a rope. Definitively a memorable experience! |
| Day 7: | White water rafting on Soca river on 2-4 rated stretch, surrounded by stunning nature. Fun and technical, meaning everyone’s assistance is important when paddling to perform professional ‘no touch’ run. |
| Day 8: | After late breakfast departure to airport. |
how this holiday makes a difference
|
This lovely and unspoilt part of Europe is not on the traveller's top list of places to visit yet so as a local agency, we are fully aware that respecting environment, avoiding mass tourism and integrating local businesses and guides is the way to keep it as it is.
Almost all our guides and qualified sports enthusiasts are local. They are well trained and above all friendly and helpful. Our philosophy has always been that, next to the destination, a genuine human touch is what makes a fantastic holiday. Ecological awareness is always present in this fragile and clean environment. For the last ten years we have organised, at the end of March, together with the local community a cleaning action which already extends beyond just local borders and involves many eco associations throughout Slovenia. We clean the river Soca and its banks and clean and restore the local tourist and trekking paths. We always share this awareness with our clients throughout the year and always pick up any rubbish if seen during their trip. We recycle when and wherever possible and encourage our clients to do the same on their own initiative which has a positive impact for everyone. The Tolmin valley area, as with the rest of Slovenia, has always been in a crossroads, so each nation has left its mark on our history; language, cuisine, you name it! Throughout our trips we discover local customs, food such as ‘Frika’ or remains of the two World Wars, which left a huge impact in this area. Only local accommodation providers are used here who employ local staff in all areas. The fact that hotel Krn is the only one in town, helps to keep tourism on a small and sustainable scale. They serve local goods such as spirits there. Recycling is essential wherever possible, too. All the private accommodations serve local delicacies such as Tolmin cheese and Bear blood spirit. This helps to contribute to the local economy by selling products, otherwise cut away from commercial outlet. All transfer services are local as well. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
