how this holiday makes a difference
|
As well as using local guides and staying in locally run accommodation we actively encourage our groups to “get into” the local culture by coming down to the market and advising them of initiatives promoting small Ecuadorian tourism projects.
We also make sure that all the food bought and used by the group (for lunches and in the communal Quito kitchen) leaves minimum waste. By having a tour guide buying and assisting in the preparation of meals for the group we are able to control exactly where it all comes from and control the amount of unnecessary packaging that we use. One thing that we love to do is have people stay in Ecuador, learning the language and volunteering on worthwhile projects. From our network of friends we are able to help set up anyone that wants to stop on in Ecuador after finishing the trip. By booking this tour, you will have a wonderful holiday whilst helping to support Ecuadorian service providers, small businesses, boat owners and other poor people in communities throughout Ecuador. A percentage donation is also made to the SOS Children’s charity that runs several orphanages in Quito. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
