the amazing things you'll be doing
A full service camping safari across the endless plains of the Serengeti and the natural wildlife enclosure of Ngorongoro Crater. A wildlife enthusiasts dream, the Serengeti, Tanzania's primary National Park has wide open grasslands stretching as far as the eye can see. Spot lions, elephants, rhino and buffalo, and if really fortunate, the elusive leopard. In contrast, the walls of the Ngoronogoro Crater provide a home for both animals and humans alike - this has been the case for millennia and we can discover its early history at one of the most important prehistoric sites, Olduvai Gorge. This journey from Tarangire National Park to the Serengeti will take us through varied habitats, and what better way to immerse ourselves in this environment than to camp, taking in the sights and sounds of this fabulous country at all times of the day.

This tour has been designed to both operate in a way that minimises our impact on the environment that we visit and to maximise the benefit that our clients can have on the host community.
The trip is limited to a maximum of 10 people, reducing our impacts as a small group whilst making sure that we will never use more that 3 vehicles per trip (2 for passengers, 1 supply vehicle). We spend 5 nights camping, reducing our energy consumption for the whole trip. As mandatory we pay the Serengeti park fees which go towards preserving the parks and other local smaller parks in the area. We use a locally owned operator on this trip. We use a locally based operator for this trip and have established a long-term partnership, assisting with local staff training in all aspects of their jobs, thereby investing in the people to help improve their knowledge and future prospects. All our Tanzanian leaders are committed to Responsible Tourism and receive regular updates and training from us and our local partners. The leaders will give a briefing on Responsible Tourism issues to help you understand how you can help reduce your impact and maximise the benefits to the local communities from your visit for instance leader’s can advise clients on where to shop, what to buy (and not to buy), how to behave, litter policy and drinking water while reducing plastic bottle consumption. For the 2 nights we do not spend camping, we stay at a locally owned Lodge. We have a long standing relationship with this lodge, using it on 2 of our other trips. This lodge employs locally owned staff and utilises locally produced and sourced goods wherever possible. We have at our offices worked to reduce our carbon footprint through a reduction of energy use and energy conservation measures. We also actively try to reduce the waste produced by having active reduction and recycling policies in place. We run annual staff workshops on Responsible Tourism. Global warming is a reality and to help you make a difference by reducing the carbon dioxide that is produced when you travel we offer a chance to carbon balance your flights. We encourage all our clients to do this and do so for all our staff travel. Go on do your bit! |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
