the amazing things you'll be doing
Borneo is a destination with something for every honeymoon couple: the world’s oldest rainforests, beautiful sandy beaches, unique flora and fauna, breathtaking mountain scenery, world-class resorts and of course the loveable orang-utans. One of our most popular destinations, Borneo has been a long time favourite for honeymooners.

This itinerary takes you to the highlights of this fascinating island. Enjoy a few days near the city of Kota Kinabalu at the luxurious Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort. Your adventure begins with the chance to see the orang-utans (or ‘People of the Forest’ in Malay) in the Sepilok Orang-Utan Sanctuary, the endangered turtles on Selingan Island and the unique proboscis monkeys. End the tour with a thrilling canopy walk high above the jungle and the majesty of Mount Kinabalu. After all that activity, you’ll be ready for some relaxation and where better than the the Gayana Eco Resort, not just a great place to stay but also a fully functioning Marine Research Centre, located just 20 minutes by speedboat from Kota Kinabalu.

Whilst on this trip you will get the chance to explore the city of Kota Kinabalu and also visit Poring Hot Springs, developed by the Japanese in WWII. Visit the Gomantong Caves, exploring the largest bird's nest cave in Sabah. Take a boat trip to see proboscis monkeys, birds and other wildlife and encounter orang-utans at Sepilok. You will also have plenty of relaxation at luxurious beach hotels.

how this holiday makes a difference
On this tour, you will visit the famous Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Sabah, founded in 1964, to rehabilitate orphan orang-utans. The site is 43 square kilometres of protected land at the edge of Kabili Sepilok Forest Reserve. Today around 60 to 80 orang-utans are living free in the reserve.

The facility provides medical care for orphaned and confiscated orang-utans as well as dozens of other wildlife species. Some of the other animals which end up being treated at the centre include:- sun bears, gibbons, Sumatran rhinos and the occasional injured elephants.

You will also stay in the Gayana Eco Resort which, as well as being a small and intimate resort of just 44 chalets, is also an important Marine Research Centre, which is currently working on a giant clam restocking programme to try and bolster the population numbers of these endangered shell creatures.

The Nature Reserve, located beside Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort, has a forest garden planted with different types of trees and plants to encourage the habitation of insects and small wildlife.
