the amazing things you'll be doing
Our trip to Uganda offers the opportunity to help the children of Uganda whose lives have been affected by the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

Volunteering in UgandaYou will be working alongside our project partner's local team in Southern Uganda in a town called Masaka near to Lake Victoria a poor rural community teaching and caring for the children in your charge. You may work with the local teachers and help develop lessons and share your skill and experience or spend time volunteering in the community led HIV orphanage supporting our partner’s vital work caring for and integrating these children into the community.

The school and orphanage are both entirely run by voluntary contributions and are the only structured option available, put simply without our partner’s work many of these children would not receive an education or have a structure place to live. So by volunteering with us you are truly impacting positively on the local community and in a responsible way.

Is this you? Ideally we are looking for volunteers with a background or interest in education and also people with social work, counselling or health care backgrounds. Alternatively a person used to working in a professional environment with a degree of maturity and a good understanding of the challenges people from extreme poverty have to face.

Accommodation: You will stay in a homestay in the community. Remember you will be living in less economically developed countries so please don't expect the same standards as home.
a day in a life of a volunteer
During the morning you may be working with the children at the orphanage playing with them, teaching them or supporting the local team, then in the afternoon it’s off to school to teach English or Maths to eager students who really do want to learn.

Please remember our partner will ask you to help where you are needed, there is so much to do and they really do rely on you to make a difference.
how this holiday makes a difference
We take seriously our responsibilities towards the communities we work with in Uganda. We support our local partner who will look after you on the ground and they will meet you from the airport, give you an induction on arrival and support you from our local office throughout your stay. They have been trained by us to work with visiting volunteers.

Our trips are designed to be two way experiences and encourage our volunteers to immerse themselves into the culture and learn its history. With this in mind in Uganda you will be staying at a home stay in Masaka living with some of the children in your care, you’ll get to experience traditional life in Africa - what better way to immerse yourself into the culture and way of life of these great people.

We also recognize that volunteers spend their own money on drinks, transport, souvenirs, services (taxis), medical care, park fees which are major contributors to local supplier’s incomes and the overall economy. We would always encourage you to use ecological and environmentally aware local suppliers and where possible will help you with this. We always aim to support local suppliers, employ local staff where possible and invest at least 70% of your placement fee in the local development work and community, this pays for local salaries and ensures that local suppliers benefit directly.

Our organisation is environmentally responsible and this is central to our ethos, whilst we would always look for local alternatives we believe that by volunteering you are helping to develop a better future for the children of Uganda - Let's be the change in the world!

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
