travelling with a local operator
This holiday is operated by a company based in the holiday destination and they will be able to provide expert local knowledge. They will be able to tailor make your holiday to suit your requirements not only concerning the dates of travel but also typically the standard of accommodation, and thus price. It is rare for local operators to be able to help with the booking of your flights.
how this holiday makes a difference
We are a local Laos operator, and 99% of the staff we employ are Laos nationals. By booking through our company you can be rest assured that the profits are going directly to the country you are visiting and helping the people in that country.

We have a strong desire to protect the local environment and therefore encourage tours around respected eco lodges with strong environmental policies as much as possible, and also educate our guides and staff on the importance of being environmentally friendly, both in the office and for the guides, on the ground. Within our offices in Laos we work to a ‘paperless desk’ policy where possible and only use recycled paper if required.

This tour supports and promotes a variety of worthwhile projects, including the excellent Arts and Ethnology Centre in Luang Prabang, which does a great job in preserving and encouraging Laos ethnic diversity. The tour also includes lunches at two restaurants that train and support former street or disadvantage children, Mak Phet in Vientiane and Friends in Phnom Penh. Visits are also made to Artisans D’Angkor, set up to revitalize the handicraft industry in Siem Reap, where the artisans who chosen from some of Cambodias most impoverished rural areas. Perhaps the most rewarding, but challenging excursion of the tour is the visit to the ‘For the Smile of a Child, project. Here you visit Stung Meanchy municipal dump, where hundreds of children are forced to scavenge in terrible conditions. However there are NGO’s here who are dong a great job to help these children to a better life, such as setting up a school and vocational centres which we can visit, such as silk weaving and a restaurant that have been set up to create a livelihood for these disadvantaged youth.

We have carefully selected the hotels on this tour to ensure they are typically small boutique style properties that are family run, employing local staff to ensure as much money goes back into the local communities as possible.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
