En route we will stop at the pans to have a closer look and to appreciate the wide-open, uninhabited spaces under the endless canopy of blue sky. Once we have settled in our lodge, we take part in a 1-hour quad bike tour with local guides, learning about the history, flora and fauna of the area. [BLD]

how this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Our Botswana lodge safari supports responsible travel from the way we travel to the places we visit and the guides that we use.

This tour takes the clients to National Parks such as; Chobe National park and Makgadikgadi Pans. National parks normally charge an entrance fee that goes directly towards the maintenance and conservation of the area. The Chobe National Park uses funds to protect a full range of Southern Africa’s large predators including the localized Puku antelope and the huge elephant migratory population. This national park also protects the vegetation in the areas from open grasslands, thickets of bush to riverine forest!

This tour is a small group safari (from 2 to a maximum of 10 clients) which means that not only can they enjoy their holiday more… they create less impact on the environment that are travelling on. Small group safaris are one way to minimize damaging the environment, the less people that travel together on safari mean less damage to environment as the area - as it is not harshly disturbed or interrupted.

Community
On Day 3 we go on a Morokoros trip – which is a wooden dug-out canoe trip on the Okavango Delta. These canoes are hand made by the locals of this region and prove to be one of their main income sources. This trip also involves and includes the indigenous people of the area as they are the ones that run the trip. Morokoros are steered by a ‘poler’ who is also sourced locally. This method of steering the canoe decreases the harmful impact travelling by water may have on the water environment.

Our guides are all African locals born and breed. The have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the surrounding areas as well as with the local cultures and customs. They are all trained and briefed of how to treat the areas that we travel to in a responsible manner - by protecting the environment and the surrounding inhabitants. They are also trained to teach clients to participate on this tour in the most environmentally-friendly way possible. This means at any time throughout the safari we and our clients will do our utmost to act in a responsible way to the areas that we visit to e.g.: Water savings, recycling etc.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
