Environment
We actively promote high conservation ethics to all clients and work diligently to preserve the Grampians unique environments. It is our responsibility to ensure the highest standards of environmental sustainability and strive to educate and promote minimal impact and a true understanding of forest ecology and respect of all organisms within the Grampians ecosystems. Our nature tours are unique, because our local experienced interpreters guarantee a complete explanation of the local environment, including the native flora and fauna and the Grampians geology. Our tours deliver superior environmental outcomes including encouraging our clients to develop effective environmental ethics. Guides ensure minimal environmental impact and accurate interpretation on activities. Spotlight walks are operated on various tracks over a designated period to minimize interference with nocturnal animals and the spotlights have filters to lessen impact on animal's behaviour. We keep wild life disturbances to a minimum by viewing from appropriate distances; we use binoculars, identification sheets and instruct clients how to view wild life with patience and respect. Eco activities are confined to tracks, trails and walkway's to minimize negative impacts. Vehicles use Gas or Diesel to minimize pollution. Activities adhere to Park's management plan and only recognized roads, tracks and trails used. Protection and conservation of native species is discussed as well as alerting clients to the illegal trade in Australian flora and fauna. We are involved in surveys and activities to monitor and record rare, threatened and endangered species with the Park. Community We are involved with local conservation groups, the local school and provide environment education activities for hundreds of visiting schools. Guides are employed locally and live locally. We purchase equipment and stores locally, recommending local attractions, eating-houses and other activities operated by local people. Activities are planned so that maximum benefit in terms of indigenous interaction, awareness and understanding is achieved. We maintain close contact with local Aboriginal groups, employ Aboriginal guides where possible, respecting cultural and significant sites and interpretation of culture. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
