the amazing things you'll be doing
We offer two short break activity holidays in Slovenia. Choose between our Active Slovenia and Magic Slovenia itineraries below.

Both our short break holidays take place in a western part of Slovenia, in the picturesque valley of the emerald river Soca, just beside the Italian border, with amazing views over the neighbouring Julian Alps.

In just a few days you will feel the country by exploring it in different ways. Cycling up the valley, paddling down the turquoise river and enjoying adrenaline adventures. It's the perfect mixture. And of course, don't forget to bring your swim wear and a big smile with you.

This European wonderland offers superb accessibility with flights taking only 1hr 30min from the UK as well as a plethora of natural delights on tap on your arrival. Based in a small town called ‘Tolmin’, you’ll be staying at the Hotel Krn. A fantastic locally run 3 star hotel, offering en-suite twin, triple & quad rooms. The food is locally sourced, and will be another added highlight to the holiday experience. We know you’ll enjoy your stay there, with glowing reviews.
day-by-day itinerary
Active Slovenia
Day 1:Arrival. We will meet you at the airport with a greeting sign & a big smile. Then we transfer from the airport to Tolmin, to enjoy a welcome drink and have an introductory meeting. After a fulfilling dinner, you’ll have the evening free to explore the town’s cosy pubs or enjoy the hotel’s fantastic games room.
Day 2:Mountain Biking & Rafting. Venturing off together on your mountain bikes you’ll discover more sides to this stunning region. Winding your way along quiet roads, off the beaten track paths & lush meadows, this has to be the ultimate cycling experience. If the day gets too hot we will of course always be ready for a refreshing dip in the river. On the boarder of Italy, we swap bikes for rafts and paddle down the river rapids at leisure. Along the way – we’ll be making water based games, enjoying rock sliding, jumping, diving & playing pirates.
Day 3:Quad bike safari. We will hit the road on our quad bikes and throughout the day we’ll enjoy the view from the top of majestic mountains, ride through rolling hills, down deep into green lush valleys. With the wind in your hair, sun on your back & gushing rivers ready to cool you down, you won’t want to forget your camera.
Day 4:Departure. After breakfast, there will be some time for shopping, brisk walks about town, and a short walk to the nearby Tolminka Gorge – that is home to ‘Devil’s Bridge’ that sits 60m above the Tolminka River. Then we must make our sad goodbyes and take you home for your airport departure. This is always the hardest activity, as it is hard to say good bye to the new friends we have made. *Please note, we can extend your stay, just talk to our friendly team. Maybe you’ll want to see Ljubljana the romantic Slovenian capital.

Magic Slovenia
Day 1:Night Canoe expedition. Transfer from airport to Tolmin and check-in at the Hotel Krn, where a welcome drink awaits us, followed by a presentation of the programme and the guides. After dinner we set off under the cover of night for our stealth mission – ‘night canoeing’. We take our places in the manoeuvrable mini-rafts, using the stars & our wits to guide us down the Soca river currents. Undoubtedly, one of the most magical experiences to feel and to re-live to your friends at home.
Day 2:Mountain Biking. We will set off by bicycle in the direction of Kobarid along the "old" road which runs along the limpid Soca among pastures and meadows. If the day gets too hot we will of course always be ready for a refreshing dip in the crystal clear river. Our destination will be the valley of the Nadiža (Natisone), a wonderful and well-hidden jewel right up against the border with Italy! Remember - Make sure your camera has enough ‘memory’ for all the wonderful sights you’ll want to capture forever.
Day 3:White water Rafting on the Soca takes place on a section of river where the difficulty level ranges from 2 to 4, which means that you will experience a gentle introduction to rafting and crescendo with an exciting finish...and everything in between. Paddling the raft is fun and at the same time technical, which means that every individual on the raft has an important role to play. Time for a big lunch and then comes the Adrenaline Park! This active challenge, is based in the tree tops at the confluence of Tolminka and Soca river. We offer everyone the opportunity to have fun in a very safe environment, where you can experience the swinging thrills knowing that you are safely harnessed. Nowhere can you enjoy such an activity in such a picturesque place. Join the monkey madness in Slovenia.
Day 4:Departure. After breakfast, we must make our sad goodbyes and take you home for your airport departure. This is always the hardest activity, as it is hard to say good bye to the new friends we have made.
small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.
how this holiday makes a difference
Environment
This lovely and unspoilt part of Europe is not on the traveller's top list of places to visit yet and we are fully aware that respecting the environment, avoiding mass tourism and integrating local businesses and guides is the way to keep it as it is. In such a fragile and clean environment as this, regulated tourism has already been proven as the best solution.

Tolmin itself lies just next to Triglav National Park and it has happened in the past that tourists have disrespected the landscape near roads by parking their vehicles on the pastures and fields as well as using motorbikes and quad bikes on mountain tracks. There were issues regarding massive collecting of endangered mountain flora too.

Our agency is a strong fighter against eco problems in the valley with constant organization of events such as the annual cleaning action and conferences about excessive extraction of gravel from Soca river, printing T-shirts with eco topics.

Due to minimizing any negative impact on the landscape, we keep our groups small with a maximum of 12 clients. In this way we reduce our impact on the landscape. This close to nature, guests don't even think of any littering and become aware of a fragile balance in the nature. Even when driving quad bikes, we only use tracks, approved by local municipality and with permission of land owners and competent institutions.

Community
We use a local agency, providing active holidays in the river Soca valley of Tomlin. By using a local agency we work with local guides and qualified sports enthusiasts who are all well trained and above all friendly and helpful. Our philosophy has always been that, next to the destination, a genuine human touch is what makes a fantastic holiday. It has been proven to be so.

This is also an area where the landscape and people have been seriously affected by both World Wars. To make people aware of this fact, we show clients all 'must see' places in the valley, especially the award winning museum in Kobarid and Tolmin.

Entrance fees also contribute to restoring and maintaining both war sites such as bunkers, front lines, charnel house and nations cultural and historic places of all kinds.

On this holiday, only local accommodation providers are used who employ local staff in all areas. Recycling is essential wherever possible. All the private accommodations serve local delicacies such as well known Tolmin cheese and Bear blood spirit. In this way they help to contribute to the local economy. All transfer services are local too.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
