Discover the history, beauty and lifestyle of the land and inhabitants of St. Vincent in an adventure-filled jeep safari.
We take you on non-tourist routes through small villages, farms, banana plantations and verdant countryside. Scenic stops along the route afford breathtaking scenery. Friendly smiles and shouts of “Good morning” break the low hum of village life as the jeep passes through the interior valleys, the “bread basket” of St. Vincent. Throughout the trip you’ll experience the real St. Vincent and see the way the majority of Vincentians live, and have lived for generations.
The crashing surf of the Atlantic Ocean resounds in our ears as we head up to Georgetown and see black sand beaches, old arrowroot factories and sugar mills. At Hell’s Gate we pass through blue-tinted ferns before stopping for a picnic lunch and a refreshing swim in the waterfall.
The Windward Highway offers spectacular sea views as we complete our circuit through the former capital, Calliaqua, and the tourist-oriented “Restaurant Row.”

Environment:
Guides encourage guests not to litter, but will pick up trash from their group and others in reusable bags along the trails and beaches. ‘What you carry in, you carry out’. They also inform visitors of the fragility of coral reefs; no touching or anchoring near them. We attend workshops and support all government wildlife preservation and conservation policies and are government custodians to Polly, an indigenous and endangered St. Vincent Parrot, (Amazona guildingii), born in captivity. Community: Understanding different cultures encourages acceptance of different lifestyles. This tour affords the opportunity to meet local villagers and gain insights into the old customs and traditions that are still alive throughout the country. Guides with community ties take you on this journey to the past and into the present. In our on-going effort to help the local economy and individual entrepreneurs, lunches are made primarily with local products, with fresh fruit snacks from our organic orchard or roadside vendors. The water comes from Vincentian springs, and it and the soft drinks are bottled on the island. The rum punch uses alcohol made at local distilleries, along with fresh and bottled tropical fruits, which grow here in abundance. Visitors are encouraged to buy handmade goods from vendors, and view or participate in cultural events. Unique activities take place nearly every month; e.g., Carnival in July, the Breadfruit Festival in August, and Nine Mornings, a cultural potpourri of music, dancing, games and drama performed the nine mornings before Christmas from about 4:00 am to 7:00 am. Primarily we use locally grown and manufactured products. When not supplied from our own organic orchard, we buy fresh fruits for snacks from roadside vendors. We encourage visitors to buy locally made souvenirs and use locally handcrafted walking sticks for the hiking tours. This season we will implement the use of locally made coconut bowls, forks and spoons. We aim to give visitors insights into the history and culture of our people and encourage tourists to attend local sporting and cultural events. We provide in-house manual and regionally certified training to local guides. |
