introduction to Guided walking holiday in Rhodes, Greece
Our guided walks take you into Rhodes to areas that the ordinary tourist never see. We have been discovering lost paths on Rhodes for the last 10 years, areas that little know of and even less have been to. When the guests have arrived and settled down a greeting meeting will take place and our Responsible Tourism policy will be explained. We shall also be telling the guests what they can expect to see at the time of year.
Our guided walks are through mountain villages that see little tourism and we encourage you to meander through these colourful places and find the hidden local taverns and discover the produce of the villages, buy freshly picked fruit from the locals to eat on our guided walks. Find yourself in a different terrain every day from mountains, forestry, coastal to our discovery walks were we share with you what secret forgotten areas we have found in Rhodes.
Return every evening to a modern accommodation run by a lovely Greek family with pool, bar and dining area. There are washing machines and dryer available to use for washing your walking clothes and a boot cleaning area. Evening meals are all made from fresh local produce, you will have an extensive menu to choose from and special dietary can be catered for, if we are informed when booking.
Apart from the cool evenings the winter month’s weather on Rhodes resembles a Northern European spring, ideal for walking. Once some rain has fallen the landscape becomes green with colorful flowers.
Spring comes early to Rhodes and is an ideal time to fully appreciate the flora and fauna of the island. It is impossible to recommend the best time to visit as this would be so dependent on the customer’s specific interests and requirements.
Mountain walks:
Attavirous Mountain is the highest mountain on Rhodes at 1215m (3986ft), and is one of our hardest walk; persons with some hill walking experience will enjoy this walk. The panoramic views from this mountain will give reward to the effort of walking the mountains, other mountain we walk on are covered in an old pine forest with paths that wind there way through taking us through meadows and onto the summits where the trees thin out revealing a panoramic view.
Forestry walks:
A wide variation of walks are to be had, from winding paths up a mountain sides to flat level dirt track road, Forestry Walks offers something to everybody with breathtaking views, discover remains of old abandoned farm stead’s from an age gone by that have been taken over by nature.
Coastal walks:
The sea has worked on the coast and cliffs of Rhodes to form contrasting views, the slightly rough footpath is soon forgotten as caves and arches soon reveal themselves as we progress along the coast. Walk through ruined Castles, Greek villages and stop for refreshments in cantinas built on golden sands next to the sea.
Walk of Discovery:
A true voyage of discovery, from around villages to the foothill of mountains. We will show you our latest discoveries on Rhodes, at your own pace you can take in all this walk or in part, take home pictures of places that only a few know and even less have been to.
Monuments, History and Legends:
Rhodes Town one of the two UNESCO world heritage site on the island the other being Lindos, we have walking routes that will introduce you to these areas and there surroundings. Take a step out of the crowd and discover with us castles and sandstone quarries were blocks were chiselled out of the rock for stone masons and sculptors to make features in these buildings we can still see today.
Scenic Routes:
Demanding and picturesque guided walks are also available for persons with hill walking experience; these walks are a few chosen from the above but mostly are aimed at getting you off the footpaths and experiencing this rugged beautiful island in its true form.

best time to go

Autumn is usually an ideal period to enjoy the splendid scenery, warm seas and blue skies above.Apart from the cool evenings the winter month’s weather on Rhodes resembles a Northern European spring, ideal for walking. walks
We have numerous walking routes within the similar terrain, to keep things simple we have categorized them under the following headings. Not nominating certain routes allows us to rotate our walking area as not to have a negative effect by over walking sensitive areas. It also allows us to take you to areas where you will get the most out of the walk at that time of year such as mountain meadows in spring full of wild flowers, insects and birds. Mountain walks:

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Environment:
We are supporting tree planting in Rhodes, following a large fire in 2008 large part of the tree area on the island was destroyed, we are aiming to help plant 20,000 trees. Transport either in the form of cars, mini buses or coaches are used to transport our clients to the route sites but we have tried to minimise the time spent on buses etc in order that more time is spent on foot. We have been able to do this by careful planning in creating our routes. We only use local hire companies who maintain their vehicles to a high standard and are thriving to reduce CO 2 emissions. The vehicle is chosen on a need basis so we never use a vehicle larger than what is required. Walkers as a rule are very environmentally aware of the consequences of their actions and have a high regard for the environment. Our leaders are instructed to always carry bin bags on route to take away any rubbish that we generate and usually we will pick up what was not generated by us. We make positive contributions by studding our walking routes and refrain from using some during parts of the year in order protect: rare flowers, Jersey Tiger Moth of Petaloudes and the endangered Gizani Fish. Within our own office we use energy saving lighting, recycled paper; recycled ink cartridges and we recycle glass, plastic, steel and cardboard and old brochures etc Solar panels for heating water and producing electricity. Community: We have been in Rhodes for 10 years, we live in Rhodes and we all are Greek Citizens. Basically we are part of the local community, we pride ourselves on our Responsible Tourism. Working and living with local Greeks we ensure that we have full permission for the areas we go walking in, our local neighbours and friends have fruit farms were you have already been invited to, walk in the orange groves and pick your own oranges straight from the tree and pay the farmer direct. The beauty of our walks is that you will be walking near vegetable fields. These vegetables are purchased to prepare your meals. We walk through quiet Greek villages and stop at the local taverns were we encourage you to discover what the village produces and what the local craftsmen make. We employ local Greek persons to assist with our walks, and encourage their self development by sending them on walking leader courses in Wales, U.K, to achieve the correct training and qualification for taking groups out walking. We work with a local company owned by a Greek family in our Daily Guided Walks, and use the accommodation also owned and run by a local Greek family. The transport company we use is based in a small village in the middle of Rhodes owned and run by a local Greek family, we stop at many different taverns, cantinas on our walks and rotate between them for all to benefit from our clients. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
