introduction to Cycling and cruising holiday in Croatia

  • Cycle some of the best routes in the Mediterranean
  • Travel on a chartered & exclusive 'Oldtimer' boat
  • Visit historic Dubrovnik to explore its history & beauty

    Discover Dubrovnik
An orientation walk of old Dubrovnik will introduce you to the city's main sights - historic monasteries and palaces huddled beneath the famous terracotta roofs. Next enjoy an optional short ride to Copacabana beach before cruising to the delightful Mljet Island. Here we jump on our bikes and explore Mljet National Park - a beautiful reserve of Aleppo pine, Holm oak and two beautiful lakes.

    Korcula - Venetian gem
Mooring at Korcula town, famous for its associations with Marco Polo, we set off down the west coast to Racisce, a sleepy village with a deep-water harbour and many typically Dalmatian houses. Here we can enjoy a swim before cycling back to Korcula and on to Lumbarda for a taste of the local grk wine. Next day further rides including a more challenging one on the Napoleonic Road. Alternatively, there is the opportunity for a free afternoon to explore the winding streets that lay beneath Korcula's terracotta roofs.

    Elafiti Islands & Cavtat
Heading towards Dubrovnik again we moor at Sudurad on Sipan, one of the justly famous Elafiti Islands, from where we cycle through vineyards and orchards to the little harbour at Sipanska Luka. Lastly we head to Cavtat to explore the hinterland. Here life continues much as it has in past centuries and our ride reveals bubbling streams, tiny hamlets and ancient watermills - a great way to finish our look at this beautiful country.

how this holiday makes a difference
    Community:
As well as being low impact, cycling is a great way to get closer to the local way of life as you can easily stop and visit offbeat places, chat to the locals… so it’s friendly and environmentally friendly!

Croatia is without doubt one of Europe’s most fascinating countries and for years one of its best kept secrets. The Croatian people have put enormous efforts in rebuilding their country since the Civil War and your visit brings support to communities throughout this fascinating region.

We uncover some of those secrets with the help of our tour leader who will be able to explain aspects of the history, wildlife and culture of the region. Our leaders are trained in responsible tourism matters and work to our detailed Responsible Tourism Policy.

The boat we use is locally owned and run and has been in the Captain’s family since it was built in the 1920’s. We eat about half of our meals aboard the boat, prepared with locally sourced produce. Other meals we take in local restaurants, ensuring that we support a wide range of small local businesses and get to taste a great variety of food.

    Environment:
Pedal power is one of the most sustainable and lowest impact forms of transport so it’s a great way to keep your carbon footprint (and waist measurement!) low. Our accommodation aboard a traditional ‘Oldtimer’ is low impact too.

We support a variety of charities and projects worldwide which support vulnerable communities and habitats including Friends of Conservation, Hope Worldwide and Send A Cow. We are also actively engaged with UK travel industry bodies which promote best practice in responsible tourism, such as Tourism Concern, The Travel Foundation and AITO. Our commitment to responsible tourism is not limited to our overseas operation and we have measures to ensure our UK office operates according to our responsible tourism policy. Carbon offsets for all flights booked with us are included in the tour cost.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
