the amazing things you'll be doing
This Peru tailor made holiday takes in many of the highlights of Peru with its rich history, vibrant culture and sublime landscapes. The country evokes images of snow-capped Andean peaks, grazing alpaca, colourfully-attired campesino locals, remote mountain villages and Incan ruins – not least the magnificent Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu.

Highlights of our Peru tailor made holiday:
  • The metropolis of Lima – visit one of the city’s excellent museums and enjoy the world renowned seafood.
  • Arequipa, home to many Spanish colonial buildings including the Santa Catalina monastery.
  • Spend 2 nights in Puno on the shores of magical Lake Titicaca, visiting the ancient burial tombs of Sillustani and the floating reed islands of the Uros Indians.
  • Full day bus journey to the ancient Incan capital of Cusco, making stops at the archaeological site of Pucará and traditional villages along the way. The city is not only a sheer cultural delight - with its many plazas, colonial buildings and street markets – but also a great place to relax, buy handicrafts, or take advantage of its multitude of cafés and restaurants.
  • Explore the Sacred Valley with its many traditional villages including Pisac with its Incan ruins and twice-weekly indian market.
  • Train journey to Machu Picchu and spend the night in the area.
Best time to go on our Peru tailor made holiday: With the exception of low-lying Lima, the itinerary is affected by Peru’s mountain climate which has two distinct seasons – wet and dry, the latter being from May to September when visitor numbers peak. Days tend to be dry and sunny with cool or cold nights. The wettest time to visit the Andes is during January and February.

how this holiday makes a difference
Community
In Peru we support the work of The Dental Project Peru. We encourage clients to donate toothbrushes to the charity based in Cusco, who then administer dental treatment and hygiene to poor remote communities where dental treatment and hygiene awareness does not exist and can prevent children attending school and adults from working.

In Peru, we have been working alongside the same local operator for at least 20 years offering unrivalled personalised service and ground knowledge of Peru. Experienced local guides, proficient in English, are used throughout. Entrance fees are included in the cost, which help maintain the preservation of Machu Picchu and other sites.

On this Peru tailor made holiday we have chosen Peruvian-owned hotels, managed and operated by local people, who in turn rely on local services and suppliers. They tend to be situated centrally with restaurants, cafés and shops just a stone’s throw away. Therefore, your custom directly benefits the local economy.

The itinerary on our Peru tailor made holiday focuses strongly on culture: stay in the metropolis of Lima, colonial Arequipa and the old Incan capital of Cusco; experience indigenous communities such as the Uros people; visit Inca ruins including Sillustani and breathtaking Machu Picchu; and browse around colourful local markets, Pisac being one. Tourism makes an invaluable contribution to preserve and even help revive traditional skills such as producing handicrafts; textiles such as alpaca blankets and scarves make excellent gifts!

Environment
We are committed to minimising the environmental impact caused by travel by supporting local projects and charities thus helping to ensure tourism has positive and long term benefits in the countries where we work.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
