introduction to Family ski holiday in the French Alps

This is more than a ski holiday. The atmosphere and energy here is very special. This is a unique skiing experience. For a start you’ll be staying in ‘the best eco Lodge in the Alps’ which is in a rural authentic Alpine hamlet.

You’ll be picked up at Geneva airport which is only 1 hour away. We are in Samoens, The Grand Massif, which is the 3rd largest ski area in Europe. You will be served delicious wholesome organic breakfast, home made teas and cakes and a 3 to 4 course vegetarian dinner (we can cater for meatatarians) and wine.

The children can get milk from the cows next door in the morning. We are very children friendly and can look after the children on request. When we look after children, they might do creative yoga, build tents with muslin cloth, play in a hammock, make snowmen or play on taboggans. We can also organise crèche places and ski lessons. Please enquire. We will escort you and the children to the piste and ski school until you get the hang of it, but also encourage you all to spend at least a day in the backcountry to experience ski touring, snowshoeing or igloo building off the beaten track.

Here, your body is nourished with healthy food and lots of physical activity and rest. Your mind is soothed by the beauty and immenseness of the environment and spacious simplicity of the architecture. Your soul finds space to breathe away from the business of daily life. Yoga, meditation, relaxation, and being in the mountains helps bring you beyond the mind to your Source.

Your week includes:
  • Airport transfer to and from Geneva Airport
  • 7 nights accommodation
  • 7 breakfasts (buffet, continental, organic)
  • 5 home-made cakes or biscuits for tea
  • 5 delicious 3+ course largely organic and vegetarian dinners with wine
  • 5 light room cleaning service
  • Wood fired hot tubs
  • Daily local shuttles to and from the slopes and village
  • Ski and lodge hosting and assistance organizing guides, tuition and activities
  • Childcare is available for €15 per hour per child

Best time to go: Christmas for the magical Christmas atmosphere! Half term is the busiest time all over the Alps. Easter if you want a dip in the lake after skiing!

    lower carbon travel
A 10% discount is offered if you hitch, take the train or come in your own car. Children under 18 and full time students get a 20% discount or 50% if they share rooms with parents.
    small group family holiday
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age is usually 5) and some older (perhaps travelling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip
how this holiday makes a difference
With us, you stay at a 1866 Farm renovated in an ecological, sustainable way. It is a low energy Alpine lodge. We offer accommodation and holistic adventure sports courses that inspire a respect for the environment and self.

    Environment
We offer incentives to all of our visitors who come by train. In the winter we encourage eco-ski trips (skiing outside of the lift system).

We have an especially designed eco- kitchen with recycling and composting. Nearly everything is recycled – paper, glass, metal, plastics (and compost goes into the garden) so we have minimum waste. The dog eats the left overs!

All of our appliances are A+. Our heating and hot water is low energy bio mass and the house is super insulated. Our toilets are flushed with source water (and are dual flush) and our waste water is cleaned, filtered and goes back into the stream as clean water.

We grow our own organic veg, and buy the bullk of our food from wholesale local organic suppliers and local farmers.

We use local guides and have an emphasis on ‘protecting the mountains’ and environmental awareness on all of our courses.

We encourage minimum use of water, the option for un-ironed sheets and 1 towel and the use of spring water vs mains (which can be pumped into the house from our Source). If people stay more than 1 week, we encourage them to keep their sheets and towels and give them a big financial incentive. We only use the dryer when absolutely necessary.

The bulk of our cleaning products are sourced wholesale from an eco-friendly supplier.

    Community
We use local guides who understand the ethics of the ‘spirit’ of our courses – we don’t conquer the mountains but flow in harmony with them! Our courses promote engaging in sport from the ‘Inside’ and a respect for the natural environment. If we camp, we teach everyone ‘no-impact’ camping and carry out all of our waste.

We encourage our guides to expound on the local culture, flora and fauna. We hire equipment from local shops and encourage going to local restaurants and the village market. Our food is vegetarian except by request.

We use the local plumber and electrician who promote ecological plumbing and electricity.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
