the amazing things you'll be doing
A ten night voyage of discovery from Fremantle to Ningaloo.
Upon embarkation set sail and get ready for your visit to the infamous Abrolhos Islands where one can dive or snorkel on the ill-fated Batavia wreck and learn the tragic circumstances surrounding this tale of desertion, betrayal, murder & revenge. View & walk amongst the ruins of rudimentary ‘forts’ from this 1629 calamity or get up close & personal with the inquisitive sea lions, colourful corals and fantastic fishing that the Abrolhos is also well known for.
As the cruise continues on enjoy a hike to the top of Steep Point – the western-most edge of the Australian continent, or a swim off Dirk Hartog Island – the site of the first ever European landing on Australian soil! The popular Ningaloo Reef is another treat with its brilliant white beaches, stunning fish & spectacular corals occurring within metres of the shoreline making it one of West Australia’s most popular tourist destinations. Fishing, diving, snorkelling, rock lobster, pristine beaches and marine life are daily highlights of this cruise.
This is a blue water adventure full of history and rich in nature right in the middle of Australia’s ship wreck coastline.

day-by-day itinerary
| Day 0: | Your "welcome aboard" the luxurious cruise is in the port city of Fremantle. Embarkation proceedings begin at 1700 - then join the sunset cocktail party as we commence our overnight cruise to the Abrolhos Islands. A sumptuous dinner, a glass of fine wine and, the comforts of your cabin, will ensure that you are adequately prepared for the coming days activities! |
| Day 1: | The Houtman Abrolhos – so named to warn mariners to “keep a sharp look-out”, but the Dutch East-Indian merchantman Batavia struck an unforgiving Abrolhos’ reef and so began a terrifying sequence of events overshadowed by desertion, betrayal, murder and revenge! Snorkel and dive in the crystal clear waters of the wreck site, see the remarkably preserved canons from this 1629 calamity, walk amongst the ruins of rudimentary ‘forts’ built against the ravages of mutineers and visit the island where retribution was eventually extracted! |
| Day 2: | Abrolhos – the islands and surrounding waters are also rich in natural history. One of the world’s most successful rock lobster fisheries endures alongside seabird rookeries, inquisitive sea lions, colourful corals and some of Western Australia’s finest fishing grounds! Landing a monster jewfish, even more revered for it’s eating qualities, will definitely be the highlight of the day! Hopefully “jewie” will be on the menu as we set sail for South Passage? |
| Day 3: | Start the day with an exhilarating hike to Steep Point – the western most edge of the Australian continent. The South Passage area is another ‘hot spot’ for those keen on fishing and hopefully the divers will see the giant gropers that frequent “Monkey Rock”. Dirk Hartog Island is the site of the first ever European landing on Australian soil and all will be unable to resist the pristine beaches that skirt the island’s southern end. Swim, snorkel or just take a relaxing stroll along a coast that likely still looks and feels as it did in 1616! In the afternoon a visit to the Discovery Centre in Denham will further acquaint you with this area’s unique history! |
| Day 4: | Our destinations today include Bernier & Dorre Isalnd - spectacular areas that present even more opportunity for fishing, diving & snorkelling. Perhaps the catch of the day will be a giant lobster but regardless your day will be filled with adventure both above and below the surface. There is sure to be some ‘tall stories’ in the ship’s alfresco bar as a blazing sunset heralds days end and, our overnight cruise to the famed Ningaloo Reef. |
| Day 5: | The Ningaloo Reef is one of West Australia’s most popular tourist destinations and as soon as you step onto one it’s brilliant white beaches you will see why! Stunning fish and corals occur within metres of the shoreline – no special skills needed here – just a mask will reveal all in swimming pool like conditions! The day will be spent discovering the many bays and shallow inner reef areas of this acclaimed coral habitat. We’ll also squeeze in some light game fishing for the tenacious mackerel and visit the ruins of a whaling station. |
| Day 6: | Today we explore the waters around the many islands that dot the entrance to the mighty Exmouth Gulf including the Murion Islands and Long Island. See friendly potato cod, turtles, acrobatic manta rays and huge schools of fish - the area is prolific in marine life and there will be many opportunities to indulge in our favourite pastimes! |
| Day 7: | Awake at your very own island paradise – the Monte Bellos! A rarely visited chain of 108 islands featuring some of the best fishing action on the West Australian coast! An irresistible breakfast will prepare you for the days activities and then its ‘away in the tenders’ to explore the delights of Trimoule Island and the many beaches and bays of Stevenson Channel. Matching wits with a ‘seriously prepared’ mud crab is definitely on the agenda and there will be more non-stop fishing and diving action. Our intrepid explorers will encounter huge stingrays, massive schools of fish and shallow waters teeming with marine life! Then it’s back onboard to enjoy the ultimate comfort of the ship and another balmy evening in paradise! |
| Day 8: | This morning join a ‘tender adventure’ to Claret Bay and Ah Chong Island – here crayfish abound and diving for this delicacy will be a highlight! The area is also a favourite with mud crabs and, the ‘true enthusiast’ will not want to miss the opportunity to add the delicate flavour of whiting to the menu! Our day will conclude with some even more serious fun – one of the ship's famous ‘fancy dress’ parties is sure to ‘bring the house down’! |
| Day 9: | A short cruise this morning will take us to the south east corner of the islands and our anchorage at Vodka Beach. Here we’ll go ashore to savour an idyllic setting – swim in the crystal clear waters, take up the challenge of the ‘beach activities’ and enjoy a classic picnic! In the afternoon, make the most of your last chance to join the fishing and diving expeditions or simply relax on the beach before getting together with everyone onboard for a farewell dinner to remember. |
| Day 10: | Early morning disembarkation in Dampier (Karratha) for connecting flights to Perth and, we will already be looking forward to welcoming you back onboard. |
how this holiday makes a difference

Environment
Through onboard education our cruises promote a love & appreciation for the areas that we visit. This appreciation is extended with our ‘leave nothing but footprints’ motto and is supported via the minimal impact nature of cruising. In turn, guest appreciation creates an awareness of how special our wilderness areas are and how important it is to maintain them. Our guests are quite often left humbled by the nature of our cruises and the respect afforded to our destinations. We do not rely on shore based structures in wilderness areas and we have little or no impact on terrestrial environs. Onboard waste is either processed via our treatment plant, retained for recycling or, retained for disposal in approved waste management sites. All activities are lead by staff that are trained to encourage minimal impact on the environment. The company promotes national parks and the protection of wildlife - we have detailed walking guidelines in place that comply with national park guidelines. We also make a significant contribution to parks & wildlife management via license fees & feedback. Transfers are provided for guests to & from embarkation/disembarkation points thus reducing the amount of transportation required. Community Being a small local town our disembarkation point in Karratha helps the community in many ways – use of town services, purchaser of local goods & supplies, monies spent in the township from both guests & crew, post cruise travel services for guests, and marketing for future tourism. Our cruises frequently visit small & isolated communities. We facilitate otherwise impractical commerce, employment & cultural exchange. Guests consistently require pre & post cruise accommodation and are encouraged to ‘make the most’ of their stay with information provided on the local events, tours, restaurants, shopping etc. Our Kimberley cruises promote the local pearling industry and guests frequently purchase locally grown pearls. The company is a big supporter of all things local and strives to use local suppliers wherever possible, a commitment that now spans some 23 years! We employ young Australians as crewmembers. Our cruises can be seasonal however we generally retain staff all-year round. We also provide further training and education. Many of the destinations we visit are protected and require licences which are at a cost. We are also support local charities & organizations such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service. No matter where we cruise we always provide information – verbally & written – on the areas that we visit. This includes culture, history, nature, wildlife and much more. The more information provided, the more guests & staff are inclined to appreciate the area they are visiting and thus the responsibility of maintaining it for future generations. We believe we are great ambassadors as we truly showcase breathtaking wilderness areas. Our cruises see nature at its best and we are proud to be able to share this with our guests whilst remaining ever-conscious of ensuring minimal disturbance. We are an Australian company & employ Australian crew. We promote & purchase local goods & services. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
