Chamonix and the surrounding Alps has a wide range of walking options and is the perfect setting for this multi activity adventure holiday – from gentle valley walks suitable for inexperienced walkers and children, through to strenuous multi day trekking at altitude, incorporating scrambling and mixed terrain over snow and glaciers.
All our trips are tailor made and can be adapted to any ability / distance on roads or trails. Road bikers will enjoy some of the most stunning cycling scenery in the Alps – including Tour de France ‘classics’ within easy reach.
Best time to go
June & Sept are usually lovely, and less crowded. Mid July to mid Aug are busiest. May and October are often stunning, but are quieter and weather may be less predictable – anything from snow to scorching sun!
'Simply Solo':
We have finally twigged! There are so many solo travellers out there, busy keeping up with high stress jobs, sparing a few minutes to dream about fresh powder turns but never having the time to actually book a holiday - let alone organise a group of friends to go with. Adventure Base has come up with a plan!
'Simply Solo': Forget the stigma you may have of sad and lonely singles holidays, our trips are fun, classy, and aimed at busy people, not friendless ones! 6th till the 13th of March.

day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1: | One of our team will meet you on arrival in Chamonix Mont Blanc and help you get settled in to your central chalet accommodation. A delicious and healthy breakfast buffet and packed lunch are provided every day, using local ingredients - making your stay as hassle-free as possible. Our team will run through your week’s adventure sports plan, then the rest of the day is yours to explore. Take the opportunity to absorb the stunning Mont Blanc views from the garden of the Chalet before heading into town. Chamonix is steeped in Alpine mountaineering history – enjoy a walk around the local shops or visit the Alpine museum, before enjoying dinner in one of the French Savoyard speciality restaurants. |
| Day 2: | A day’s Mountain biking - with or without a guide. Make use of our excellent guide books, maps, and our team’s ideas for mountain bike days out – for all abilities. Experienced riders will enjoy exploring the labyrinth of trails around the valley, Keen downhillers can tackle the tracks at La Tour or the technical trails around Flegere, while more mellow cross country cyclists can explore the valley rides and more gentle routes around Les Houches. If you’re keen to learn and/or need equipment, we can help with bike hire from our friends at Zero G, as well as line up a qualified mountain bike leader to show you the best trails, and help you improve your technical riding skills. |
| Day 3: | A day’s hiking in the hills – the perfect antidote to all that exertion and adrenalin on a bike. As mellow and relaxing, or strenuous and long as you’re keen for. Allow us to make suggestions for walking routes you can follow on your own, exploring stunning waterfalls, mountain lakes, or getting up high and close to the stunning glaciers that dominate the landscape all around Chamonix. Walks from 1 hour to 10!! If you’re keen to learn more about the local environment, let us line you up a qualified walking guide, who will choose a route to suit your ability, and help point out some of the local flora and fauna as well as explain more about the delicate mountain ecosystem. |
| Day 4: | Enjoy the breakfast spread in your chalet and grab a packed lunch, before heading down the valley for your week’s white water rafting adventure. Suitable for kids as well as adults! Choose a day on the Arve or opt to drive through to Italy for some more challenging rapids. Your rafting guides will run through the safety drills before setting off on a stunning journey downstream, either in a shared raft, 2 man canoe, or – for the brave – by hydrospeed. Choose your transport and enjoy an adrenalin charged ride through some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the world. |
| Day 5: | Time to relax! It’s your holiday and that means taking a day out from constant activity to take stock and look after you … Choose to start with a private yoga session with our qualified instructor, before enjoying a healthy breakfast at the chalet. Then decide: A day relaxing in the sun at Lake Passy – swimming in the beautiful clean water, and just chilling out with a book and a picnic. Or let us take you to Italy to experience the amazing natural spas at Pre St Didier, just 30 minutes away. Completely unwind and feel your body recharge before spending a couple of hours treating your taste buds to Italian delicacies in Courmayeur – amazing coffee, ice cream, foccaccia, fresh pasta … mmm! |
| Day 6: | Get vertical and try something new. Chamonix is the home of alpinism: the birthplace of modern climbing and still a ‘Mecca’ for climbers and alpinists the world over. A trip to Cham without experiencing something of this mountain world would be incomplete! Choose a day on rock - learning the ropes of sport climbing with one of our guides. Or head into the mountains, taking the mountain train up to the Mer de Glace, where you’ll learn the basics of safe glacier travel, ropework, and crampon and ice axe use. Be prepared to fall in love! |
| Day 7: | Your final brekkie at the chalet before packing up and heading home, relaxed, envigorated, and with the taste of all things Chamonix fresh in your mind. We look forward to seeing you again soon for a winter snow sports adventure, or next summer to enjoy more of our beautiful mountain world. |
how this holiday makes a difference

Community
We are a fully integrated French company, and we work closely with local suppliers and guides to help make sure your holiday with us is authentically Chamoniard! From the locally produced bread and cheese in your sandwiches to the guides who take you climbing, explain how the glacier system works, and take you exploring the trails by mountain bike, everything and everyone we work with is a genuine representative of the local mountain community. We are committed to maintaining a social responsibility to the community in which we live. Chamonix is a diverse and multicultural ‘melting pot’ of nationalities – all drawn to the mountain Mecca that is the Mont Blanc range. We are fully integrated into the French community we live in. Our team of staff are all fluent French speakers, we have both a French and an English company, and we work closely with a network of trusted local suppliers. We are proud to be part of an exciting and developing community that is growing and changing constantly, but we also recognise the importance of maintaining and supporting the local heritage and history of where we choose to live and run our business. As a company, we don’t automatically opt for the cheapest supplier – it’s the closest, smallest, or friendliest who usually wins our business! We are committed to supporting local campaigns, and are active members in the Chamonix Business Forum – dedicated to Chamonix’s environmental development as a whole. Together as a network of holiday companies and suppliers we can achieve a whole lot more than just one small business, to protect our fragile environment and continue to promote our beautiful town in a sustainable and environmentally sympathetic way. Environment We live, work, and run holidays in a stunning mountain environment, below Europe’s highest peak – Mont Blanc. The untouched beauty of our adventure sports playground is its biggest attraction, and keeping it that way is one of our main priorities! We are passionate about sharing our amazing mountain world with as many people as possible, in an environmentally sustainable manner. We are a small team, offering a 100% personal service, and are dedicated to sharing our love for the sports and environment around us. As a company, we recycle, reuse, and actively promote the environmentally friendly option in terms of transport and travel around the valley. We support the Chamonix tourist office’s campaign for an ‘eco-friendly’ town. We run shared minibuses, use natural cleaning products (vinegar, baking soda etc), and run an almost entirely paper free office. We encourage all our guests to think about the environmental impact of their actions during their stay, providing information about the local ecology, encouraging minimal use of water and heating, and offering easy access to recycling facilities, free public transport, and environmentally friendly methods of transport – foot, bike, raft, and parapente! Our multi activity holidays use locally trained guides, non-polluting methods of transport, and leave no scar or litter on the environment. Our guides have trained extensively in Chamonix, and hold the highest possibly qualification to work in the mountains – they are a fountain of knowledge about the flora, fauna and ecology of the mountains and glaciers. We keep to small groups of 6 or less in the mountains, which helps maximise your experience, and minimise the impact on the environment. Our aim is to grow slowly, sustainably, and in the most environmentally conscious way we can. At every step of our company development, we consider not only the economic viability, but also the environmental viability – we want to keep our mountains the way they are for the rest of our company’s life, but also for our children and grandchildren to enjoy as we have |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
