introduction to Kenya budget safari
Travel to famous national parks in spectacular Kenya, the original safari destination where a wealth of exotic wildlife share lakes, rivers and wide open plains with nomadic tribes whose traditional way of life remains largely unchanged. Try to spot the giraffes, zebra, oryx and the noble lion, elephant and cheetah of the famed Masai Mara. Travel through the beautiful Great Rift Valley and relax on the shimmering shores of Lake Naivasha. The spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife and opportunity to meet local tribespeople makes this trip an amazing Kenyan exploration.
day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1: | Nairobi. Get a feel for the energy of urban African life in the bustling streets of Nairobi. For those who arrive early, be sure to visit the National Museum of Kenya. |
| Day 2: | Lake Nakuru. Witness one of the world's greatest spectacles: thousands of pink flamingos and other water birds feeding in the shallow waters of Lake Nakuru. An afternoon game drive provides a look at some of the park's four-legged attractions, perhaps even the rare white-stockinged Rothschild's giraffes. |
| Days 3-4: | Lake Naivasha. Spend the morning searching out wildlife then visit a local market. Maybe take a cruise on the lake in the afternoon sunlight to spot buffaloes and the many bird species that live here. |
| Day 5: | Loita Hills. Travel across the Great Rift Valley floor to Loita Hills, right in the heart of Masai country. Tonight, camp among these friendly, semi-nomadic tribespeople and learn about their ancient culture. Perhaps pick up a local recipe while sharing a campfire meal. |
| Days 6-7: | Masai Mara National Reserve. With everything from elephants and wildebeest to lions and hyenas, the variety of wildlife in the famed Masai Mara is simply amazing. It's even possible to take a breathtaking early morning balloon ride high above the savannah to watch the park come to life at sunrise. |
| Day 8: | Nairobi. Return to the safari capital of the world in cosmopolitan Nairobi. |

how this holiday makes a difference
|
For every week that our passengers spend in Africa, we plant a tree in Kenya through the Woodlands 2000 Trust, a local NGO. The Woodlands 2000 Trust is a wonderful project that provides seeds and seedlings with planting materials as well as land-planning, tree survival and woodlot management services. It aims to increase reforestation and bio-diversify in semi-arid regions, and also to create sustainable and profitable tree products micro-industries that contribute to alleviating poverty. While approaching the Masai Mara, there is a chance for you to plant a tree at a site.
We believe strongly in low impact tourism and so during this trip we use existing locally owned facilities and camp ground such as the one used in Nakuru. By using locally owned and run facilities we are helping the local communities that we visit. During this trip there is a wonderful opportunity to visit a local Market in two towns; Naivasha and Nakuru while the cooks replenishes the supplies. The people in this buzzling market are from all origins and tribes, a great opportunity to listen to the diverse languages and interact with the local, view all types of fruits, vegetables and cereals grown in Kenya. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
