introduction to Tanzania adventure holiday
The amazing sights and sounds of Africa will stay with you a lifetime after visiting some of the world's finest game parks on this Tanzanian safari. Kenya's safaris may be well known, but canny travellers realise that in Tanzania's Serengeti region and Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the sheer abundance of wildlife means that there’s an excellent chance of seeing the Big Five and more. If you have a healthy curiosity and a thirst for adventure, you can be sure these eight action-packed days will make for the safari of a lifetime.
day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1: | Nairobi. The frenetic streets of Nairobi offer an exhilarating introduction to modern African life. |
| Day 2: | Tengeru Homestay. Learn about the life of the Meru as privileged guests at a family homestay. Perhaps explore the nearby markets, learn about Tanzanian coffee production or get to know the family's farm. Make friends and learn first-hand about life on the land. |
| Day 3: | Lake Manyara National Park. Cross the spectacular Great Rift Valley floor to Mto Wa Mbu to explore the town's colourful markets. Haggle for handicrafts then continue to Lake Manyara, known for its unique tree-climbing lions and thriving hippo population. |
| Days 4-5: | Serengeti National Park. Enter the Serengeti, home to large herds of zebras and wildebeest and sleek iconic predators. Spot as many animals as possible on a game drive, then fall asleep amid the calls of nocturnal birds. At dawn, an optional balloon ride over the park offers a chance to watch the animals of the African savannah from above. |
| Day 6: | Ngorongoro Crater Rim. Visit the fascinating Olduvai Gorge, once home to man's ancestors, before driving to the crater rim to set up camp. The Ngorongoro Crater is home to a huge animal population so keep an eye out for the Big Five and more. |
| Day 7: | Mto Wa Mbu. Get among the action on a half-day game drive along the Ngorongoro Crater's floor. Keep cameras ready for sightings of everything from wildebeest to elephants. Afterwards, return to Mto Wa Mbu for the night. |
| Day 8: | Nairobi. Return to vibrant Nairobi, where the adventure sadly comes to an end. |
traveller reviews for Tanzania adventure holiday
The most memorable part of my holiday was spotting my own Leopard, thanks to our top notch driver/guide who taught us how to look for wildlife... This safari was wonderful and highly recommended. Definitely 5 stars. (more)
small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places. highly commended

This tourism business won an Award in our 2006 First Choice Responsible Tourism Awards - organised by responsibletravel.com in association with The Times, World Travel Market and Geographical Magazine, of the Royal Geographical Society. how this holiday makes a difference
|
For every week that our passengers spend in Africa, we plant a tree in Kenya through the Woodlands 2000 Trust, a local NGO. The Woodlands 2000 Trust is a wonderful project that provides seeds and seedlings with planting materials as well as land-planning, tree survival and woodlot management services. It aims to increase reforestation and bio-diversify in semi-arid regions, and also to create sustainable and profitable tree products micro-industries that contribute to alleviating poverty.
We believe strongly in low impact tourism and so during this trip we use existing locally owned facilities. By using locally owned and run facilities we are helping the local communities that we visit. We reduce deforestation by avoiding unnecessary use of scarce firewood and using gas for cooking. At Mto Wa Mbu travellers have a chance to interact with the locals in the busy market and can contribute to the local community |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
