Agriturismo Cascina Papaveri, owned and run by Robyn & John Sims is a fully registered agricultural and tourist resort under Italian law, and has organic certification for vineyards and fruit and vegetable production. Robyn is the registered farmer. We purchased the property in 1998 and after a 2 year redevelopment programme we opened in May 2006.
We offer up to 11 guests a unique fully inclusive double activity program of Italian cooking lessons and Pilates that are held in our world class facilities. Accommodation is to the highest level, and guests are treated as extended family.

How the minimum criteria of the
responsible travel standard was met...
responsible travel standard was met...economic responsibility
- All our staff including our master Chef Pietro Baldi live within 3 km of the Agriturismo, the only exception are our visiting Pilates teachers.
- The success of the village and with it the Italian rural way of life is very important so we strive to maximise use of the village community.
- We are founder members of a newly formed consortium of farmers and producers in the village, and we will create a small display featuring members wines, preserves etc. that guests can purchase.
environmental responsibility
- Our property has natural cork insulation, 80% LED based lighting, water reduction shower heads and 2 high efficiency stoves that provide heating. All waste water is treated on site in our biological treatment works. We have plans to use solar photovoltaic produced energy.
- The indoor swimming pool uses a oxygen system for water treatment, thereby minimising the use of chlorine.
- Being organic, we compost as much as possible and reuse on the land. All non compost waste is taken by us to a central recycling depot in the village.
social responsibility
- A typical vacation would involve local market visits where guests can choose a food item to feature in a buffet lunch, encouraging interaction with the locals.
- We visit local restaurants and take a wine tasting tour of small family vineyards.
- We encourage guests to purchase traditional craft items and preserved foods, and suggest local walks, church services, etc.
