Zdiar holiday accommodation in Slovakia
How Zdiar holiday accommodation in Slovakia makes a difference
Environment
We use water from our well and we encourage our guests to use as little as possible as we are dependent on the ground water levels. We collect rain water to water our plants in the garden. We recycle as much as possible, we separate all paper, plastic, glass and food waste and encourage our guests to do so. In fact, we go through all rubbish to make sure that everything and anything that can be recycled is done so. We have installed energy efficient boiler at our Pension. We only use sustainable wood for our stove and fire place which are locally sourced. We have spent a lot of effort in insulating our cottages so that there is minimum of heat escaping. We have installed energy saving bulbs through out our accommodation. We have plenty of wildlife in the vicinity of our accommodation and we encourage our guests to be respectful of it. We feed birds and deer in winter months to help them to survive harsh winder conditions. We have preserved the cottages in their original style and thus conserving the traditional local architecture which is now becoming very rare in these parts of the world. Our cottages are listed and made from the local wood.
Community
We engage all local tradesmen in helping us to maintain our properties and hence support local trade and community. We recommend local restaurants to our guests and are able to negotiate discount for our guests if they use local services and restaurants. We have discounted skiing passes for our guests and can arrange a local guide for walks and trips and thus encourage the guests to stay in the village and use the village services. We religiously pay the tourist tax to the local council which is used to support the local tourism and development of the village infrastructure. We share in our success with our neighbours and if we have surplus of guests, we recommend them to our neighbours. We participate in marketing of our unique location of Antosovsky Vrch so that the whole community can benefit from increased tourism. Where possible we buy locally produced milk and cheese, we prefer to buy our supplies from the local shops rather than big supper markets. Since we have started our small family business, the community of Antosovsky Vrch has become more thriving and we believe that we have also been instrumental in making it such a success. By preserving our wooden cottages, we have proved to the local community that it can be worth their while investing in preservation of their traditions and local customs.
