Environment
In all of my homes and vacation property I use recycled material and furniture. I am a DIY'er and love to re-purpose products that most people do not think they can use anymore. I believe re using products for different things will save the environment from the extra material in our landfills. In addition to this I also like to use natural products that will not produce harmful chemicals and pollute our air. I promise to continue to find ways to sustain and maintain the environment around me for myself and my children.
Some other things that I do to sustain my environment and help in my community are donating clothes gently worn by my family to those who are in need. For instance every 6 months or so I clean out our closets and bring them to work and leave them in the break room for others who maybe in need of extra clothes. We also donate suit to people who cannot afford them for interviews or meetings.
Everything in my home can be reused in someway, instead of just throwing them out. When I design homes (my hobby) I make sure to reuse as much as I can were I change materials, fabrics, colors, or repaint, it all about saving my environment.
Community
I am an avid support of United Way, I truly believe in there mission and goals and support them with my donations. I do a monthly donation from my salary to the United Way. I also participate in fund raisers yearly with my employers to raise money.
It is very important to me that my money supports small business owners, friend and neighbors. As you will see from my rental properties, I employ friends, family and local business owners. Port Antonio is the perfect parish to show your support for small business with our local markets, bars, restaurants and eateries. The owners you see in these businesses are also you friends, neighbors, church brethren, and even family.
By opening my business I give neighbors and opportunity to gain employment that is scarce in this parish. I offer competitive wages and a way for them to support their families.
I do recognize the challenges and issues facing my home town with poverty, unemployment, poor healthcare and literacy issues. I currently work with my church group and parents to help out with these issues by offering assistance to underprivileged individuals. We provide daycare so mothers can go out and work to take of their families. We also help with school uniforms for children as well as school books and supplies for those who cannot afford it.
Ultimately I believe every little help counts and I try to give as much as I can to my surrounding community and neighbors.
