Airstream accommodation in Gironde, France
How Airstream accommodation in Gironde, France makes a difference
Environment
Girard is a unique landscape of woods, parkland, heather and gorze , where you will find an array of wildlife including deer, fox, badger and boar, birds, insects, lizards and much much more. Bird life includes nightingales, stonechats, woodpeckers, buzzards, owls and golden orioles. We are currently striving to make Girard a protected nature reserve.
The natural swimming pool has many varieties of aquatic plants that act as natural filters and oxygenators eliminating the need for chemicals. This is supported by a filtration system circulating the water promoting the optimum environment to keep the water clear and healthy for you to swim in, whilst at the same time providing an ecologically balanced haven for wildlife. Iridescent dragonflies can be studied at close quarters, a bright green frog croaks by the lilly pad and more timid creatures pass by in the night leaving only the tell-tale sign of a small pile of cherry stones at the water's edge. It provides a beautiful landscaped year round amenity.
Community
We have lived in the area for nearly 10 years and can recommend walks in areas of outstanding beauty along with local restaurants, shops, and day trips.
Monsegur boasts a large 19th century hall and is the main centre of activities, including two weekly markets, special markets, festivals and more. The famous wine region near the medieval town of St Emilion is nearby and local smaller vineyards and tastings can be recommended. Castelmoron D’Albret is notable for being the oldest village in France, a must see for its beauty and to support its community through tourism.
The design of the Cabin at Girard was inspired by the oyster cabins and fishing huts of the Arcachon Bassin and Cap Ferret. The enchanting scenery of Cap Ferret lies at the far south of the Lège-Cap-Ferret peninsula, marking the separation between the Atlantic Ocean and the Bassin d’Arcachon. Deserted for many long years, this strip of land formed only 3,000 years ago was a blessing for fishermen. Napoleon III in fact encouraged the development of oyster-farming. Over the decades, the villages of Les Jacquets, Le Canon, Piraillan, L’Herbe and Cap Ferret gradually made their appearance. Today, the municipality intends to implement a charter of conservation and rehabilitation of the famous fishermen’s huts.
