The object of establishing this enterprise was to participate in the social and economic development of the state. Tourism is the largest contributor to GDP and the main private sector employer and foreign exchange earner for the state. The establishment of the service business is also in keeping with government’s policy of diversifying the economy following a significant fall in banana price and exports. We are located within a working class community from which our staff are employed. All staff - office, house keeping, maintenance security and grounds are employed from the immediate community. We support sports and cultural efforts in the community while providing employment for members of the community. The staff are afforded regular training opportunities organised by the SGHTA and the Ministry of Tourism.
Guests are provided with the opportunity to explore the community along with the various attractions located in the state through guided tours and information brochures, pamphlets magazines etc. Guests are also given information on local restaurants, shops and vegetable, meat and fish markets. Guests are encouraged to try local cuisine and experience various cultural events.
Re-usable glass bottles, glasses, plates and cutlery are used as much as possible. The septic system is self contained and does not form part of the general waste disposal system. Rooms are designed to make maximum use of prevailing winds for cooling and light from the sun for drying laundry. Solar water heaters are used for showers and energy saving devices are installed to conserve electricity.
We encourage wildlife by planting trees and fauna on grounds to attract natural wildlife and no chemicals are used for weed control. We employ organic gardening practices and compost from garden and kitchen is used to fertilise plants. Environmentally friendly cleaning products are used as far as they are available and affordable. Building materials, mainly in the form of locally mined sand and aggregates were used in the construction of the premises. These materials are abundant in supply and mining activities have little or no impact on the environment.
