How Maldives beach resort, Asdu Sun Island makes a difference
Environment
We will not be destroying this small and beautiful island with the introduction of hi-tech facilities and structures, we will avoid water bungalows, amenities and fixtures needing excessive electricity and water, we will not be having a swimming pool, and spa facilities will not be introduced. We will strive to have only local tropical island vegetation and mangrove rather than introduce gardens and imported flora and fauna. The beach line will be protected by natural means as much as possible. We will keep the lagoon and the surrounding clean. Conservation, in every aspect, is our goal.
We do support and offer refuge to a number of local birds such as herons, cuckoos, seagulls. You will be amazed at how friendly and natural these birds live on the island. The lagoon surrounding the island is protected from abuse by guests as well as by staff. Fishing of any kind is not allowed from the lagoon or from the adjacent house reef.
Community
The Maldives is unique in that we live on small islands, and resorts and local village islands dot the entire region of the Maldives. We maintain a close and good relationship with the local community on the 2 nearest fishing villages. We organise day trips to these islands, both for local food and souvenir shopping and help the island community whenever we could. We do give technical assistance in quite a number of activities carried out by the 2 islands, but mainly to our closer neighbour Dhiffushi Island. We also give them the chance to have their produce such as fresh fish sold to us, so that they do not have to go far to sell their catch.
For labour intensive type of contract work, preference is given to the neighbour island people. We give importance to the neighbouring island people's need for transport to capital island - passage is provided on our boats whenever requested by the people of the island.
