Self catering accommodation in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
In the garden flat we use mostly low-energy light bulbs, offer controls on the heating system to avoid unnecessary waste, minimise water waste by providing a shower over the bath and the use of hippos in the cistern. We provide information to our guests, both in our information pack available within the flat and on our website, about our environmental policy and how guests can help (such as what items can be recycled where, local food & environmentally aware shops, public transport details to name but a few). We also provide information about carbon off-set, as we are aware that most visitors need to use a car to get to us.
Community
Where possible we use local shops ourselves, and encourage the use of them by our visitors. Our fruit, vegetables and herbs from the garden are grown without pesticides and are used where possible, and we are happy to share with garden flat guests. A welcome pack is provided on arrival for guests staying for the week, which includes Katy's homemade jams (from local ingredients) and marmalade. We also feature a lot of local crafts in our home, from stained glass windows to copper headboards. Mosaics using reclaimed & recycled tiles & ceramics feature strongly in the garden flat, both inside and out.
Katy was the Market Manager for a monthly market which takes place in Crieff from April to October, where she fully supports local food producers and local craftspeople. She was also very involved with a walking & outdoors festival, the Crieff & Strathearn Drovers’ Tryst.
