The apartments were a family home originally and have been renovated into 5 spacious apartments. They are owned by Daphne and Eldon Charles, who spent most of their adult life in the UK.
We have brought with us a wealth of experiences in particular in dealing with people; Daphne worked as a shop assistant in a large department store (BHS) for six years and then as a Youth/community worker, as well as working with several groups in the UK. Having developed a love of working with people, we decided to become a part of the hospitality business, where we can share our love for the most beautiful and best kept secret, which are St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines were once steeped in agriculture, Sea Island cotton, and Banana. Today our economy depends greatly on tourism, “Our future in Our hands”. We have a very good relationship with the neighbors and this has allowed us to work with them as a team in clearing the small stream at the back of the building allowing the continuation of the wildlife such as the iguana, and other rare lizards that are often seen in this area. There are also lots of birds that frequent the stream.
We hold regular on the job training for our staff as well as training organized by the SVG Hotel association and the ministry of Tourism. As a small family business we recognize the need for excellence and standards in our establishment. Our staff has regular on going training on customer service, and good house keeping. We employ mainly from our local community. We also assist individual shut-ins financially. We sponsor 2 young girls who have been orphaned from the AIDS virus. We assist in several Church projects and also work with several community groups where we often discuss the importance of tourism to our economy. We offer special rates to groups involving young people.
Whenever we cater we always buy locally where possible, all waste food is given to the locals for compost, or food for their pigs or dogs. Our guests and staff are encouraged to reuse bags for shopping etc. While on our beautiful Island our staff will be happy to take you to the local supermarket or the vegetable market; where you will see a variety of fruits and, vegetables we will even give you a hands on lesson in how to cook some of the local dishes if requested. For those wishing to eat out we have provided you with a list of restaurants etc. A copy of the “What’s on magazine” printed by the SVG Hotel association is placed in each apartment/room to keep you informed of events in and around the Islands. Because we are situated in a residential area, you will experience the real Vinci greeting as you chill out on the front porch. The locals are friendly and easy to speak to.
We make every effort to be environmentally friendly. We use environmentally friendly cleaning products, all of our light bulbs are energy saving and our air conditioning units operate with tokens allowing the customer to pay for what is used only. Our waste water from sinks etc is used to keep the plants in our garden watered, we collect rain water in recycled drums and the water is then used to clean the drains etc. We also encourage our staff and our guests to reuse plastic bags or to use shopping bags that can last a long time in order to cut back on the amount of plastic used today. Guests are asked not to leave lights and other electrical equipment on when leaving the premises or when not in use. Reusable bottles, plates, glasses and cutlery are used regularly.
Daphne Charles, the owner, has researched local plants and traditional uses, researched the Petroglyphs and their history, researched places in the town Barrouallie which located on the North Western side of St. Vincent and the origins of their names, organised the first Bagga Fish Festival which is now a major event (a festival which celebrated St. Vincent & the Grenadines’ tradition Black Fish) and conducts workshops for young people in cultural awareness.
As a small family business our aim is to please, with the view that you will be amongst the many friends who return from time to time, to visit our beautiful island, to stay at our establishment and to become our friend.
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
