Our guest house was restored (and continues to be restored) by local craftsmen who use traditional building materials. Renovations were approved by local commissions that overview constructions in the medieval medina of Meknes. The wall running along the riad and El Hedim square are protected by the UNESCO as being part of the world heritage. Many medinas in Morocco have been severly damaged by new, unadapted constructions. Unfortunately many riads built from scratch contribute to the destruction of some medinas.
Our employees are all local and benefit from good stable working conditions. They receive above average wages and have very flexible working hours. Their salaries have allowed to greatly increase the living conditions of their whole family. The training they receive ensures that they will easily find work elsewhere if they decide to change.
All furnishings in the riad were created by local craftsmen. When receiving guests we take them directly to local craftsmen or small family restaurants in order to make sure that tourism won't only benefit a minority. Donations from guests are always welcome for the local schools in the medina.
We organize meetings with locals to try to reduce the quantity of trash that people simply throw in the streets and encourage them to use the containers at their disposal. We must admit however waste treatement in the country is a particular problem. The riad is equipped with solar panels and provides hot water for our house for more than half of the year.

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
