We support numerous community projects/charities such as Xtatic Dance Group which gives children, teens and young adults a positive activity to be involved in, and Adrenaline Mas Camp. We also support Lions Club of Kingstown. This is a service organization that volunteers and implements programs within the community to increase social and culture standards. They also put on different events to raise money for the needy. In October we will be assisting them with a Wine and Cheese party they are having on our property to raise funds to help the blind. In addition, we support the School for Children with Special Needs – The school offers assistance to students with various disabilities, including mental and physical disabilities, hearing impairment and learning problems. Its curriculum utilizes the basic Primary School curriculum, adapted for the special needs of individual children.
We use every opportunity to inform our guest of the rich history St. Vincent and the Grenadines has. At our reception area there is an ample amount of literature available on the culture and history of the islands. Also throughout our bar and restaurant there are old maps of the islands with original boundaries and spelling of some town and parish names, as well as the islands themselves.
With the feedback we receive from our guest via comment cards and other means and information/classes from the Ministry of Tourism, we provide our staff with ongoing training. We purchase most of our produce from local farmers, fishermen, etc. We provide internships to students studying tourism/hospitality in St. Vincent or Vincentians studying tourism/hospitality abroad.
Whenever possible, we remind staff and guest of our environmental practices. We educate your staff to turn off lights and turn down/off air conditioning when rooms are unoccupied. We also advise staff and guests to close the drapes whenever possible. We provide reusable items such as glass cups and cloth napkins with food and beverage services. We use daylight exclusively in our bar, lobby, reception area and restaurant for as much of the day as possible. We’ve also started a linen reuse program in all guest rooms.
With electricity prices so high we conserve energy as much as possible. For example we use the central a/c only when we have guests in house, and we keep lights off in rooms that are not in use. We have a variety of plants throughout the property and when possible use the crop from such. We compost organic waste, and use environmentally friendly cleaning products. We recycle as much paper products as possible. For instance we re-use envelopes for in-house deliveries, and re-used paper for taking notes. In each of our guest rooms there is a message in the bathroom asking them to conserve water.
All employees of the hotel are local to the island. We encourage guest to try other local restaurants, purchase local crafts, and take part in local activities when they occur. This is also done by the local hotel association in a weekly publication called “What’s on in St. Vincent”. We can also show them where the market is to get hand made crafts and other local products. Our purchasing policy is to buy local. We purchase fruits, vegetables and fish from local fishermen and farmers. We purchase most of our products and services used throughout the hotel from local vendors. Our maintenance, plumbing and electricity services are always done by local people.document.write('')
