Our Montefrio B&B accommodation in Spain stands for peace and tranquility; blissful enjoyment of nature at its best - and the sun! In a word: Relax. Enjoy a Tinto de Verano at the pool. Our Montefrio B&B accommodation in Spain is in the middle of the olive trees. Being at the end of the road we guarantee peace and tranquility. At night there is no light pollution so you can see more stars than you can dream of! During daytime we do not hear cars nor plains. People come in the first day loaded with the northern stress and our biggest success is that we see them leave us relaxed! For the more sporting people we rent bikes and have a lot of hiking trips directly from our Cortijo.
Socially beneficial practises:
We have in Montefrio a historic site “penas de los gitanos” a place where archaeology and nature meet. We inform our guests about this place and the ones that visited the site are really excited about it. We collaborate strongly in promoting this area and do support each other. We help them guide the French/ Holland and German visitors.
Our guests get all information on the local activities, places of interest and where and how to visit the most beautiful places. We promote walking and cycling tours in the beautiful surroundings and in town we give French lessons to the local children.
Environmentally beneficial practises:
We’ve installed an ecological purifier for the toilets. We ask our guests to use water in the most economical way. We do wash towels only on demand of our guests and not every day. We’ve installed gutters on the roof so we can in case of rainfall, catch the water and contain it in container. Later on we use the water for the drainage of our garden.
At the moment we start a purification-project of the used water with plants and sand in order to regain fresh water. For the electricity we have a totally renewed day and night installation. The building materials are bought locally so that our house fits in the environment and we install solar panels for the hot water of 3 bathrooms and the kitchen. Unfortunately, we only can select paper and glass as independent waste for recycling, the rest is collected together.
Practices that financially benefit the local community:
For the part we’ve already reconstructed we’ve purchased our materials at local companies. We only work with Spanish labours and specialists for the reconstruction of our stables into more rooms. We buy our food and drinks as much as we can in Montefrio.
We provide information for our guests of the local activities. A list of restaurants, bars, shops, cultural and historical activities. When the town hall has a program for the fiestas available we show it to our guests and help them make arrangements if necessary. Since Montefrio has more then 30 bars and restaurants where you can enjoy the local specialities at affordable prices. After our first summer we hope that we need help for the next year in our B&B.
We, Mady and Marc are 2 belgiums who changed a succesfull job for a much nicewr business, a B&B with walking and cycling as our local speciality. Mady has all kinds of walks in and around town or in the Sierra Nevada Marc loves to bike on road bike or MTB
