Self catering accommodation: We are planning to build 20 eco-lodges on the site, all three-bedroomed and combining the latest green building techniques with stylish interior design. Each holiday home is designed and built to a high specification set in its own generous space with many of the lodges enjoying their own lake frontage.
Energy efficiency is very close to our hearts. We have installed the very latest geo-thermal heating systems extracting water from the site’s natural resource – the fishing lakes. Not only is this ecologically sound, but it is the first system to use geo-thermal pumps to provide both hot water and under floor heating on any UK holiday development.
The lodges themselves have double-insulated walls and sedum green roofs which not only helps them blend into their natural environment but also acts as a second insulate to retain heat in the winter and keep the lodge pleasantly cool in the warmer months. Glass windows and sliding doors running the full height of the building offer stunning views while increasing passive solar gain.
We have gone to great lengths to embrace the surrounding environment so as well as planting a large number of indigenous species of trees on site, along with shrubs and wild flowers, we’ve also installed bird and bat boxes and created an otter halt on the island in the eastern lake. By creating and diversifying the various wildlife habitats we hope we have also created a fascinating and beautiful environment where people and wildlife can happily co-exist.
Letting agency: As a letting agency we also have a commitment to the local environment, economy & society, We encourage all holidaymakers to interact with the local community by giving advice to our clients regarding local activities and attractions. We are in the process of updating our website to list activities, attractions & local events to encourage the holiday maker to interact and consequently support local villages and businesses.
We recycle any unused brochures and also offer e-brochures in order to reduce our paper waste. We actively support the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (minimum £2,000 pa) who organise activities including educating local children about the Dales (e.g. walking with wildlife), training local villages in traditional methods (e.g. dry stone walling), and investing in village infrastructure (e.g. restoring village halls). Together we are planting 2,100 trees in an over-farmed area to encourage the reintroduction of local fauna and flora and offset our corporate carbon emissions. We have also been accredited as ‘Investors in People’ for our investment in training of our staff.
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
